Top 10+ Austin Family Events 8/3 – 8/6

The weekend is almost here, and it’s going to be a good one. If you got our Top Picks Email yesterday then you already know it’s “going to be like kittehs in Wonderland!” Say whaaat…you’ll see! Here are our Top Austin Family Events for this weekend.

Tomorrow:

1st Friday Kids Night Out at Cafe Monet starts at 6 pm. A chance for the kids to ditch you while they create a new artwork and have fun! $25.

– Free Movies Under the Stars continues with Bedtime Stories, that Adam Sandler movie where the stories come true…it’s a good one. Free popcorn and a drink. At the Metz Recreation Center.

Float Flicks at El Salido Pool in the Anderson Mill Limited District will be showing Megamind at 8:30 pm. It’s Will Ferrell, don’t deny this FREE event.

Saturday:

– Oh, my! It’s the 6th Annual Ice Cream Festival at the Fiesta Gardens. Kicking off at 10 am, $10 entry fee with FREE Ice Cream, Kids 8 and under are FREE. Ice cream, contests, music and more.

– Go take a hike…with your family! 10 am, all ages and FREE at Mckinney Roughs Nature Park. The Family Nature Quest hikes are one hour long and leave from the visitor’s center at 10 am and noon.

– Check out Steve, the improvising poodle at “What’s the Story Steve?” an improv comedy for kids at Coldtowne Theater. 10 am, pay what you wish.

– Austin Summer Musical for Children presents “Alice in Wonderland” at the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center. Performances are FREE and will play at 11 am, 2 & 4 pm. Pick up your FREE tickets 90 minutes before the show. I’m not sure why, that’s just what it says to do…

Ruta Maya is hosting the Wild West Showdown, where the School of Rock Austin will battle the School of Rock Southlake…it’s going to be a bloodbath! Not really, starts at 5 pm, $2.

Sunday:

– Austin Pets Alive will be holding Kittenfest 2012 at Weirdo’s. The whole shebang starts at noon, $5 at the door. Carnival games and kids activities will go until 6 pm. Live music, silent auction and a dunking booth!

The Hideout Theatre presents another improv show for kids by the Flying Theater Machine. Fairly Silly Fairy Tales will play at 3 pm for $8.

Concerts in the Park continues with a performance by the Strings ensemble of the Austin Symphony. FREE at the Long Center, 7:30 pm.

Over the weekend…
