Welcome 2014 like a crazy person and take a polar bear plunge at one of these local spots. Who knows? Maybe it will become your new family tradition!

You may be asking, “What’s a polar bear plunge?” It’s where you take a dip in a coooold pool on New Year’s Day for luck, for fun, for no good reason, really, other than to say that you did. Here are a few pools that are offering public swims tomorrow.

Check out this video of last year’s plunge at Barton Springs, from KXAN:

Polar Bear Swim at Barton Springs Pool -> Gather at 9:30 am and get ready for the most refreshing way to welcome the new year! Enjoy some coffee and donuts before the official plunge at 10 am. Come as you are or bring a potluck dish to share with others. Due to construction, you must enter the Springs through a temporary gate on the upstream side of the bathhouse. The dip is free!

Pfreeze Pflop at Scott Mentzer Pool -> Bring a canned food item for donation and get free admission to the Pflugerville plunge! Brave souls will start making their way down the slide and into the pool at 10 am.

Polar Bear Splash at Gregg-Clarke Park -> Gates open at 1 pm at the Kyle Pool. Light snacks and drinks will be available until the splash at 1:30 pm. Admission is free!

Polar Bear Plunge at El Salido Pool -> This is the only pool that’s actually heated (it’s 82 degrees), so take note! Admission is free and the plunge will be from 12 – 1:30 pm.

Have fun, ya crazies!
