Feeling the desire to get out and help others during the holiday season? Looking for an awesome New Year’s resolution for your family? Consider volunteering with some amazing community organizations in Austin.
There are numerous organizations that can use help – but where can you volunteer with kids?
Thankfully, the awesome folks at Little Helping Hands have made it easy to find and sign up for kid-friendly volunteer opportunities. Founded by Austin mom, Marissa Vogel, who had struggled to find suitable volunteer opportunities for her own young children, Little Helping Hands strives to make finding and signing up for volunteer activities with children an easy and stress-free process.
Simply browse their monthly calendar for a listing of age-appropriate activities, with some suitable for families with children as young as 3 years of age. Click to sign up on the ones that fit your family’s interests and schedule. That’s it! Opportunities for the next month are usually posted during the third week of the previous month. Spots tend to fill up fast (Yay Austin!), but there is a waiting list available (family schedules can change pretty rapidly) and new opportunities are posted throughout the month as they become available.
And while doing a good deed is its own reward, there are rewards and recognitions available: Children volunteers will receive a tracking card at their first Little Helping Hands volunteer activity and receive a special stamp on the card after completion of each activity in which they participate. For every three Little Helping Hands volunteer activities, they will receive a gift certificate good for Amy’s Ice Creams. In addition, Little Helping Hands hosts a yearly volunteer appreciation event and invites family volunteers to join them for an afternoon of fun.
So, get out there, help your community, instill positive values in your kids, and have a blast doing it!
