Here are our Top 10 Austin Family Events

Friday:

— Take the toddlers and preschoolers to Old Settler’s Park on Halloween morning for fun geared just for them! The Round Rock Parks & Rec Department will host the annual Fall Fun Festival from 9 – 11:30 a.m. There will be carnival games for young children as well as hayrides, cookies & punch and fun entertainment for all to enjoy. Free!

— Head over to BookPeople and Trick-or-Treat for Books! Stop in for storytime at 6 p.m. then join the fun for a costume parade around the store and get a free book to bring home. (This free event is geared towards kids ages 7 and younger.)

— Join the Thinkery for a Halloween Hootenanny from 6 – 8:30 p.m. with spooky science activities, a not so scary storytime and a pumpkin patch that the little ones will love. Come dressed in your Halloween best for our costume parade! Refreshments (including food, beer, wine and kid-friendly drinks) will be available onsite for purchase. Ticket prices: Member Child -$15, Member Parent – $12, Child – $17, Parent – $15, Children under 2 – Free.

Light up your Halloween night with fireworks! Planet K will host a Día de los Muertos fireworks display on Friday at 9:30 p.m. behind Krieg Baseball Field, east of Pleasant Valley Rd. Free & open to the public.

Saturday:

— It’s Formula 1 race time, and Circuit of the Americas is bringing a turbo-charged festival downtown this weekend! Austin Fan Fest is a FREE festival with a great music lineup, local food trucks, artists, an X Games-style action-sports zone, and lots of activities for kids and families. — Visit the Austin Nature & Science Center for their Fall Festival from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.! See live owl and bat presentations, find constellations in a planetarium, discover differences between the furs and skulls of different Central Texas animals, and even go on a guided hike in the Zilker Nature Preserve. This family-friendly event is free!

— Take part in the 5th Annual FARE Walk for Food Allergy at 9 a.m. at Mueller Lake Park. This annual event brings together people who are seeking a safer world for the 15 million Americans living with food allergies. In addition to the walk, families can enjoy fun activities such as a bouncy house, Games 2U and live music.

— Get a special discount on tickets to A Year with Frog and Toad at ZACH Theatre this weekend! You can get $10 youth tickets to this high-quality musical production at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. Call the box office at 512-476-0594 ext. 201 and mention Do512 Family for this special discount!

Sunday:

– Join the Friends of Austin State Supported Living Center at the 3rd annual Spooktacular, a family-friendly event that includes a 5K run/walk and a Kids K at 9 a.m. and a Fall Festival for the community from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. with arts and crafts, a petting zoo, carnival games and more. Registration for the 5 K is $30 for adults and $20 for kids ages 13 and under. Kids K registration is $10, which you can do online in advance here. Fall Festival tickets will be available to purchase at the event for $1 each or $20 unlimited wristbands.

– Have some fun making paper marigolds at the Neill-Cochran House Museum‘s family-friendly Sunday-Funday event from 1-4 p.m. Free!

— Enjoy some outdoor family time at the Fall Festival & Corn Maze at Barton Hill Farms where you’ll find games, a “Go Horns” corn maze, pumpkin patch, farm animals and more. Open Saturdays 10 a.m. – 10 pm. and Sundays 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Nov. 9, 2014. Admission is $8 for ages 3-10 and $11 for ages 11 and up and includes entry into the corn maze.
