— Take part in a FREE daylong music festival right here in Austin, TX. The 3rd Annual MAPJAM, presented by public radio station KUTX, is all-ages, open to the public, with no tickets or RSVPs required. This year, nine bands — from African marimba to hip hop and funk and folk — will perform in four locations across East Austin from 1 p.m. – midnight. — Take the kids to Mueller Lake Park from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. to shoot rockets, see how parachutes help firefighters, design a flood-proof city and more! Rockets to the Rescue is a free event for families designed to showcase how technology helps Central Texas in times of disaster, hosted by 4-H CAPITAL for National Youth Science Day.

— Austin’s Chinatown Center hosts an impressive celebration to ring in the Lunar New Year with dragon and lion dancers, firecrackers, kids activities, delicious food and more. This year, everyone’s invited to celebrate The Year of the Goat at this Chinese New Year party from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The celebration is open to the public and admission is free.

— Head out to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area in Fredericksburg for the 1st annual Enchanted Rock Star Festival. Enjoy activities for kids throughout the day and a Star Party at night. — Take a family outing to the 6th Annual Sherwood Forest Faire! Be magically transported back in time at this fun-filled, charming Renaissance Faire based on the tales of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Enjoy faeries, swordplay, theatre, magic, comedy, and games. The Faire will run every weekend through Sunday, Mar. 29 from 10 a.m. – dusk in McDade, Texas. Tickets at the gate are $20/per adult and $10/per child. Learn all about the exciting sport of geocaching at McKinney Falls State Park at 11 a.m. You’ll go on a high-tech treasure hunt using GPS units, which will be provided. — Families are in for a treat when Duncan Tonatiuh’s award-winning children’s book, Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote: A Migrant’s Tale, comes to life on the stage at the Scottish Rite Theatre at 2 p.m. In this play, Pancho Rabbit meets danger at every stage of his journey to find his missing Papá.
