Taking the kids to see live theatre is such a fun experience. It’s really adorable to watching young faces light up with joy and hear their giggles of happiness as they engage in storytelling, music and magic that comes with live performances. Sharing these memories with the kids is something really special. This winter, there are so many awesome productions scheduled in Austin. We wanted to share a round-up of these events with you so you can get your tickets and mark your calendars.

— Charlotte’s Web @ ZACH Theatre
Through Jan. 15, Saturdays at 11 a.m. & 2 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m.
When Fern saves Wilbur, the smallest pig in the litter, Wilbur’s fate falls in the hand of a seemingly fragile web of Charlotte the spider. Charlotte weaves a path to freedom for Wilbur in this heartwarming tale of friendship and devotion featuring bluegrass music and aerial artists from partner Sky Candy. For ages 3 and up. January 14 & 15, Saturday at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m.
Jack London’s Classic Tale Live on Stage! This multi-media adventure mixes classic story telling with projected illustrations and original music to tell the story of Buck, the magnificent cross-bred offspring of a St. Bernard and Scottish Collie. This Austin-based company, Theatre Heroes, is making their Stateside at the Paramount debut with this compelling one-man production. Best for 4th – 12th Grade. — Odd Squad Live @ The Long Center
January 15, 2 p.m. & 5:30 p.m.
The popular PBS Kids TV series follows the extraordinary adventures of two young government agents, Olive and Otto, who use math skills and teamwork to solve unusual cases (always brought forward by adults) ranging from disappearing zeroes to runaway dinosaurs. Utilizing math to put things right when oddness strikes, they often find additional clues in the “Mathroom,” a futuristic space that is just a teleport away. Designed to help kids ages five to eight build math skills, Odd Squad is a little Men In Black for kids, mixed with some Airplane, and sprinkled with elements of Get Smart. — The Amazing AcroCats @ Paramount Theatre
January 19- 23, Thursday & Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. & 7 p.m., Sunday at 1 p.m. & 5 p.m., Monday at 7 p.m.
This one-hour show features over a dozen fabulous felines (all former orphans, rescues, and strays) walking tightropes, pushing carts, skateboarding, jumping through hoops, ringing bells, balancing on balls and turning on lights. You’ll also get to see The Rock Cats, the only cat band in existence. A portion of every shows’ ticket sales go toward cat and kitten rescue. Tickets are $27 and can be purchased online here.
— The Thing in Grandma’s Closet @ The Long Center
January 28 & 29, February 4 & 5, 2 p.m.
A downer of a day becomes much more interesting when Nick (10) and Ally (13) discover a mysterious contraption tucked away in a closet at their deceased Grandmother’s house. Is it something she hoped they would find? The siblings put aside their petty squabbles and work together so that they and their mother can reconnect to grandma and move forward from their loss. — Puff, the Magic Dragon @ Austin Scottish Rite Theatre
February 4-26, Saturdays & Sundays at 11 a.m. & 1 p.m.
This magical new play is presented with the blessings of the artists who wrote “Puff, the Magic Dragon,” Peter Yarrow and Lenny Lipton. Music, puppetry, and live action flesh out the beloved song’s characters and images as they come to life on the historic Austin Scottish Rite Stage. — The Ugly Duckling & Tortoise & the Hare @ Paramount Theatre
Sunday, Feb. 12, 3 p.m.
Lightwire Theater (Dino Light) returns to the Paramount stage bringing together two classic tales, The Ugly Duckling and The Tortoise & The Hare, in an unforgettable theatrical “glow in the dark” experience. Hans Christian Andersen’s, The Ugly Duckling is a wonderful story celebrating differences and transformation while Aesop’s fable, The Tortoise & The Hare reminds audiences of the old adage “slow and steady wins the race.” Tickets are $17 which you can purchase online here.
— Elephant and Piggie’s We Are in a Play @ ZACH Theatre
February 17 – April 29, Saturdays 1 a.m. & 2 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m.
When Gerald and Piggie get together, anything is possible. They might wear silly hats, get invited to a fancy pool costume party, or learn a crazy new dance. Based on the wildly popular, beloved book series, this lively musical features Gerald and Piggie and the delightful back-up singers, the Squirrelles, who together discover the fun of being in a play and the joy of friendship.
