Recently the Do512 Family team decided to get our own families together for a Sunday night dinner at the newly opened Napa Flats Wood-Fired Kitchen on FM 620 near Lake Travis. We were looking for a great location for some casual time to hang out together with our three families (including 6 kids), and this was the perfect spot.

This restaurant is tucked into a quiet area in The Trails at 620 shopping center. Napa Flats features a bright and open dining area, views of the wood-fired oven, a bar, patio and even a playscape for the kids. The vibe is fun and perfect for family night.

Their menu includes California and Italian inspired flavors — hand-tossed pizzas, pastas, salads, grilled flatbreads and dips, fish, steaks, and a great selection of house-made gelato. There’s also a full-service bar, a nice selection of craft beers, and a great variety of wines (including those from the Napa Valley, of course) at very reasonable prices.

IMG_2418-2The staff was very friendly and attentive and made sure the kids were going to have a good time.  After getting our drink orders, they brought each of the kids a small plate containing a ball of dough, sauce and cheese so that the kids could make a tiny snack pizza. Of course the kids were totally into it. Once they created their pizzas, we walked over to the chef at the pizza oven and watched as they cooked. It was a perfect little activity for the kids and kept them very happy.

IMG_2391We ordered a variety of appetizers including a delicious Mediterranean plate, the Palo Alto dip (sun-dried tomatos, artichokes and cheese) and plenty of pizzas to share. The grown-ups were big fans of the Prosciutto & Arugula pizza while the kids were pleased with the standard cheese & pepperoni options.

IMG_2420The kids meals also included a scoop of gelato for dessert, which had all the kids in smiles. There were many flavors of homemade gelato to choose from — salted caramel, nutella, mint chocolate chip and more.

IMG_2422IMG_2424On the day that we visited Napa Flats, it was pouring rain. But just after the gelato, the rain cleared enough for a very short (although slightly damp) visit to the playground next to the patio. We promised the kids to come back on a sunny day — and that is a promise we surely intend to keep. Each of our three families all look forward to heading back to Napa Flats again soon.
