On Wednesday, October 5, you can plan to skip the carpool line and walk to school in stead for International Walk to School Day. This event aims to promote safer routes for walking and bicycling, in addition to emphasizing important issues such as physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
In the United States, International Walk to School Day is expected to include more than 5,000 events across all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.
You can check with your child’s school to see how they are participating. You can also click here to learn about the City of Austin Safe Routes to School Program.
Enjoy your walk! Be safe!
