— Both locations of Catch Air (Round Rock and Anderson Mill) are hosting a Back to School Bash. Enjoy $5 discounted admission all day from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., and kids get a free ice pop, too! Don’t forget to bring your socks.
— Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites you to a free movie night at Community First! Village featuring a screening of Frozen. Arrive as early as 7:30 p.m., the film starts at sundown. Concessions will be sold there (cash preferred). The event is free, however a $5 donation would be appreciated.
— Dress up in your finest and hop aboard the Austin Steam Train‘s Princess Flyer. The trip train ride features a leisurely 3 hour ride where your princess enjoys drinks and snacks, and a visit by our very special Depot Princesses! Costumes and stuffed animals are encouraged. The train departs at 10 a.m. at the Cedar Park Depot and returns at 1 p.m. Tickets start at $38 and can be purchased online here.
— Dive in to some weekend fun at the TownLake YMCA‘s End of Summer Splash Bash party from 12 – 2 p.m.! This pool party is FREE and open to the public. They will have refreshments, music, snacks, pool games, surprise guests, and more. *Please note, if you or a family member are not currently members of the YMCA of Austin, they will need to take a short swim test.
— Check out this year’s Austin Summer Musical for Children — The Jungle Book. See it for free on Saturdays and Sundays through August 27 at the Boyd Vance Theatre. You can see the show today at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. or 4 p.m. Tickets are handed out 30 minutes before the show and it is advised to get in line early. — Take the family to the annual Swiftfest event in downtown Jonestown from 4:30 – 10 p.m. Celebrate the beautiful chimney swift birds and enjoy live music, nature-themed vendors, good food, fun games and activities for all ages at this annual event (about 30 minutes northwest of Austin). Free admission!
— It’s ’80s Night with the Round Rock Express at the Dell Diamond! The E-Train will don Pac-Man-inspired uniforms that will be auctioned off online during the game. All proceeds will benefit Austin Angels. After the game, The Spazmatics will take the stage for the final installment of the St. David’s Summer Concert Series. Lawn tickets start at $7 and can be purchased here.
— Austin Scottish Rite Theatre and The Hideout Theatre are presenting an improv show for families that mashes up classic children’s stories in a really comical way. Check out this funny show, Once Upon a Whaaa?!, at 11 a.m. at Scottish Rite Theatre. Tickets are $8 for kids under age 12, and $12 for ages 12 and older. — Things are getting very spicy at Fiesta Gardens today. The Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival takes place from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. In addition to the hot sauce competition, this event features food tastings, culinary demos, sauces for sale, and live music. This family-friendly event is free to the public with a donation of three nonperishable food items or a $5 donation to Central Texas Food Bank. (No dogs, coolers, or smoking allowed.)
— Take the kids of all ages to see a show unlike any other. The Wizard of Dogz features tons of dog tricks (with 5 rescue dogs), puppets, giant bubbles, a scarlet macaw, juggling, unicycling, circus balancing acts, and lots more.
