Each year, we feel pretty lucky to be exposed to so many awesome bands, tech geniuses, gaming creators, speakers, etc. right here in our own hometown during the South by Southwest festival!
Wondering what events are cool to take the kids to? There are plenty! We’ve done some research to find the most family friendly events happening during SXSW. Take a look at all that awaits, and plan to make some exciting Spring Break memories with the kids.

— Cartoon Network’s NEW, NEW, NEW, NEW Screening @ Long Center Terrace
March 13, opens at 6 p.m., screening starts at 8 p.m.
Check out new content from The Amazing World of Gumball, We Bare Bears, Ben 10 and Teen Titans Go! Attendance is free and open to the public! No badge needed, just your complimentary Guest Pass.
— SXSW Outdoor Stage at Lady Bird Lake
Free, all ages, outdoor shows return to the SXSW Outdoor Stage (located at 800 W Riverside Dr.) with three nights of entertainment.
— Flatstock Poster Show @ Austin Convention Center
March 16-18, 2-6 p.m. on Thurs.; 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Fri.& Sat.
Presented by the American Poster Institute (API), Flatstock 53 will display the works of the world’s top gig poster artists. The show runs March 17-19 and will feature posters of varying styles, colors and techniques for sale by the talented artists who created them. You can stop in, browse and shop for cool concert posters and more.
— SXSW Marketplace @ Austin Convention Center
March 16 – 18, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The first installment of the SXSW Marketplace brings together local Austin boutiques and hand-selected national/global brands to create a unique shopping experience at the epicenter of SXSW.

— Do512 Family Picnic @ Midway Food Park
March 14, 3-7 p.m.
If you’re going to take the kids to any party during Spring Break & SXSW, we hope it’ll be ours! We’re so excited about our 3rd Annual Do512 Family Picnic, presented by Howdy Honda. Join us for a magic show, puppets, face painting, awesome food trucks and a great line-up of bands, including Mama K & the Shades and Kupira Marimba. FREE with RSVP!
— Think About Music with Spaghetti Eddie @ Thinkery
March 11, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Join the Thinkery for an unofficial SXSW event that includes hands-on, music-related activities and live children’s music from Oklahoma City’s Spaghetti Eddie at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.! Activities are free with paid museum General Admission.
— 5th Annual Music Showcase @ The Little Yoga House
March 13 -17, 1 p.m.
For five days in a row the kids-only yoga studio will host a variety of interactive musicians for kids to play, sing and dance along to. In addition to music, the studio will have complimentary snacks, beverages and local health and wellness brands set-up with hands on displays for kids & parents. — Family Music Meltdown @ Pan Am Park
March 15, 3-6:30 p.m.
Check out this free family-friendly concert with a stellar lineup of artists such as El Tule, Strumero and Riders Against the Storm, as well as activities for the kids. FREE with RSVP.
— MyMusicRx + YOU WHO! Rock Show for Kids @ Fader Fort
March 16, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Presented by Toyota, this annual rock show for kids includes breakfast tacos, giant owl mascots, raffle prizes, and a special art guitar craft zone. This year’s event features music from Shakey Graves, Sara Watkins, Y La Bamba, Baskery, Sky Katz and Red Yarn. 100% of show proceeds will help support MyMusicRx’s music medicine programs for seriously ill kids across the country. Get tickets here for $25/adults (or $30/day of show). Kids 10 and under are FREE but do require a $0 ticket. A VIP family-of-four-pack is available for $125 and includes complimentary breakfast, concert t-shirts, raffle tickets, and a special swag bag filled with sponsor gifts.
— We Are One Kids @ TOMS Austin
March 16 – March 18
TOMS Austin is hosting 3 days of parties with early afternoon (1-3 p.m.) events specifically geared towards kids, including fun activities like drumming, yoga, and special music performances. (Evening events start at 5 p.m. and feature live music and is open to all ages.) Be sure to RSVP for each event you wish to attend.
— Willie is for Everyone @ Austin Scottish Rite Theatre
March 17, 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Enjoy a family-friendly tribute to Willie Nelson! Treat your family to live music, food, and lots of activities–including a professional hair-braiding station to honor Willie’s unique style. Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for kids 12 & under, available online here.
— Tacos & Tunes @ Whole Foods Domain
March 18, 8 – 11 a.m.
Bring the kids over to the Whole Foods Domain for Hat Creek’s annual event during SXSW. Arrive early, as Hat Creek will be giving away 1000 FREE breakfast taco and presenting live music.
— World Music, World Stories @ Hill Country Science Mill
March 18, 1-6 p.m.
The Science Mill and OUTSIDE VOICE TV present a backyard concert featuring Tribu Baharú from Bogota, Colombia; Los Texmaniacs from San Antonio, Texas; Analogix from Fukuoka-shi, Japan; Hanato Chiruran from Tokyo, Japan. This concert brings the energy of SXSW to the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The concert is free with admission to the Science Mill: under 3, free; ages 3-18, $8.50; adults, $10; seniors (65+) & military, $8. Click here for tickets.
— Rock + Read @ The Domain
March 18, 2-5:30 p.m.
Head over to the lawn at the Domain to hear kid favorites such as the Que Pastas and Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band, enjoy storytime with local authors reading their own books, a craft-making station, and a trampoline for jumping, too. FREE with RSVP.

Want to try some new food during Spring Break? Stop by the SouthBites Trailer Park, presented by Favor. Located at 604 Driskill St., it’s a showcase of noteworthy food trucks form Austin and all over the U.S. Click here to view the full list of trucks you’ll find there.
— KUTX Live Broadcasts @ Four Seasons
March 15-19, 7 a.m. – 12 p.m.
KUTX 98.9 will air four early morning broadcasts live from the Four Seasons hotel. These shows are a great opportunity to let your kids see some amazing music in a calm environment. Admission is $10 on a first-come, first served basis, and includes a breakfast taco, granola bars and coffee. They’ve also added daily kids entertainment in the lobby at 8 a.m., thanks to Spare the Rock! Check the full lineup here.
— KGSR Live Broadcast @ W Austin
March 15-18, 6 a.m. Wed. – Fri. & 8 a.m. on Sat.
For a $5 donation to the Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas, you’ll enjoy 4-hours of exclusive, live interviews and performances from featured SXSW artists, and the first 300 guests through the door each morning will receive a complimentary breakfast treat. — South X San Jose @ Hotel San Jose
March 15-18, starts at noon each day
South By San Jose (SXSJ) is an annual 5 day festival concurrent with SXSW Music Festival in which the hotel parking lot is transformed into a live music venue with bands, local vendors and concessions. The event is always free and open to everyone. Line-up this year includes Temples, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears and much more.

March 13, All ages before 8 p.m.
This showcase is presented by KUTX 98.9 and Austin Creative Alliance featuring music from Calliope Musicals, Ruby & The Reckless, Hard Proof and more. Free with RSVP.
— Quantum Collective Southwest Invasion 2017 @ Whole Foods Downtown
March 16-18, 12-7 p.m.
An amazing 3-Day event on the Whole Foods Rooftop Plaza during featuring over 30 artists. Music lineup includes Modern English, Kate Nash, Hanson and more. Free with RSVP. If you wish to make a donation of $5 or more here to Whole Planet Foundation, you’ll be entered to win the coveted “Cut The Line” Passes.
