Every summer we get really excited about Sound & Cinema, Do512’s series of great music & movies on the Long Center lawn. Thanks to our buddies at Texas Lottery® and Alamo Drafthouse, crowds of Austinites can gather for an awesome nights of free entertainment and carefree fun under a beautiful Texas sunset.

This season’s first installment of 2017’s Sound & Cinema featured a screening of The Princess Bride along with tunes from Icing (covering Cake). Take a look below at some of the most fun moments of the night. And then save the date to attend one of these next Sound & Cinema events:

  • June 28Raising Arizona (PG-13), music: The Quaker City Night Hawks
  • July 19Galaxy Quest (PG), music: Octopus Project
  • July 26Scott Pilgrim vs. The World  (PG-13), music: A Giant Dog

—> A Look Back at All the Fun: Here’s a few of our favorite moments so far to give you a taste of what to expect at Sound & Cinema this summer.

Your kids got extra cute!
Face-painting and hair braiding stations had everyone looking their finest.

Be sure to stop by the Do512 & Do512 Family tents at each Sound & Cinema for extra activities. There will be free swag to pick up at each event as well as different things to do.

You got to play in a money grabbing machine!

Grown-ups got to spin the wheel at the Texas Lottery® tent for the chance to enter the money machine and win real cash, while children of all ages were having a blast in the kid’s version of the money machine. Thanks to Clif Bar, kids got to collect as many bar wrappers as they could, which they could then exchange for fun prizes. Come back to each Sound & Cinema to try this out!

Icing (covering Cake) got everyone in the mood to party.

Don’t you wish we all felt as uninhibited as kids about dancing? Dang, these kids were getting into the sounds of Icing (covering Cake)! Before each movie begins, you can count on high energy live music. This season you can look forward to local favorites: The Quaker City Night Hawks, Octopus Project and A Giant Dog!

A variety of food trucks made sure everyone had plenty to eat.

All that movie and band watchin’ can work up quite an appetite, which is why every Sound & Cinema has plenty of food trucks to ensure you don’t go hungry. Garbo’s, Mama Fu’s, Moojo Ice Cream, Newk’s, Rosarito’s, Slab BBQ, The Peached Tortilla, and Uncle Louie G’s will all continue to be on deck to choose from.

The sunset was amazing!

Texas really knows how to showoff when it comes to gorgeous sunsets. And you really can’t beat the city views at the Long Center.

Everybody loves a watching movies under the stars!

Nighttime is the best time to be outdoors in an Austin summer. What could be better than snuggling up with the family on a blanket and watching free films on the lawn? We think it’s pretty darn great!

As you can see, these things are lively affairs. If you missed the
first one, don’t worry! There’s still three more scheduled this summer.
