We’re very excited to share the news that Austin Parks Foundation is hosting another summer of free, family-friendly programming in parks all around Austin! On of our personal favorites, the Movies in the Park series returns, along with outdoor fitness classes, and the addition of playdates in the park where families of young children can gather for music and storytime.

We think this programming from Austin Parks Foundation is a great way to celebrate Austin living at its best, and helps everyone maximize the enjoyment of our awesome outdoor green spaces. Read on for all the details and schedule of events, and be sure to mark your calendars for some of these great free experiences…

–> Playdates in the Park
Join the Austin Parks Foundation this May and June at an Austin park near you! Enjoy story time, make crafts, and move and groove with Creative Action! Music & Movement sessions are active and designed to inspire creativity, encourage physical and emotional development, and support bonding and connection for parents and children. Classes contain singing, beatboxing, guided movement exercises, and end in a dance party for the whole family! Open to all families and FREE from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at these locations:

  • May 21, Balcones District Park
  • June 8, Garrison District Park
  • June 25, Martin Park


–> Movies in the Park

You can pack a picnic, relax on a blanket, and enjoy a fun FREE night out with the family watching movies under the stars! For over 10 years, Austin Parks Foundation has brought movies to neighborhood parks across Austin ensuring the entire community has access to free outdoor entertainment. We’re visiting parks all over Austin to bring you our FREE Movies in the Park series. Be sure RSVP to the Facebook events to get the latest  updates.

  • June 23: The Goonies @ Dick Nichols Park
  • July 28: The Mitchells vs. The Machines @ Colony District Park
  • August 26: Encanto (en Espanol) @ Dove Springs District Park

  • November 4: Luca @ Muller Lake Park
  • November 18: Soul @ Mueller Lake Park

There is a rain date set for each film in the case of bad weather, and the best way to keep up with any last-minute changes is to follow Austin Parks Foundation on Facebook and Twitter.

Dogs, picnics and lawn chairs are welcome. Alcoholic beverages, glass and styrofoam are not permitted. Smoking is also prohibited in the park, per city law. Recycling bins are provided, but please plan to pack out your own trash and keep the parks clean.

This beloved series of approachable fitness classes in parks all over Austin is returning this summer! These classes encourage physical activity as well as  positive wellbeing.
