The afternoon will be filled with fun activities such as:

  • decorating cookies
  • making paper rainbows
  • crafting puppets
  • magic show at 2 p.m.
  • face painter from 4 – 6 p.m.

Admission to this fundraiser is one new children’s book purchased from BookPeople.

The Girl Scouts will be collecting the books for families with babies in the neonatal intensive care unit at Dell Children’s Hospital. Recent studies show that reading may help improve the health of premature babies. Studies have shown that babies respond well when they are read to, and in fact, they are less likely to stop breathing or have their heart rate drop. And their brains develop more quickly when their families interact with them this way.

It can be hard to find volunteer and service projects for the very young philanthropists in our lives, but this one is not only age-appropriate but also sounds like lots of fun. Plus, the mission behind it — helping families with babies in the hospital — is something that may be meaningful to young children.
