Have you driven down South Congress only to wonder what’s going on in that ominous castle that popped up last year? Those curious (and brave) enough to wander inside discovered this location is called Sfanthor, and it houses a sci-fi gift shop stocked with t-shirts, comics, collectables, jewelry, and more. But recent visitors may have also been treated to a sneak peek of things to come. Now the time for secrecy is over, as this Saturday, Mar. 7 marks the official Grand Opening of the Sfanthor House of Wax.

This new wax museum, brought to you by the owners of Austin’s iconic Museum of the Weird in downtown Austin, pays homage to classic science-fiction, fantasy and horror films (hence the name “Sfanthor”, an acronym for those three genres). Behind the castle walls, visitors will discover winding hallways of realistic wax sculptures placed in highly detailed sets from classic monster movies that have thrilled audiences in the past, beginning from the birth of film and spanning most of the 20th Century.
