Get ready for a fun-filled day trip focused on magical mermaids! On Saturday, September 22, you can head south to San Marcos, TX for the SMTX Mermaid SPLASH. Organized to celebrate San Marcos’ unique river and arts culture, the day starts with a Mermaid Promenade in downtown San Marcos at 10 a.m. and is followed by the 3rd Annual Aqua Faire at 1 p.m. in San Marcos Activity Center.

SPLASH, standing for Stewardship, ­Preservation, ­Local, ­Arts, ­Sustainability, ­Heritage, is an annual city-wide, multi-event festival, celebrating the city’s cultural heritage and precious resource, the San Marcos River. The all-inclusive events give nod to the history of the Aquamaids of Aquarena Springs and celebrate the mermaid as guardian of the San Marcos River.

The Parade: The Downtown Mermaid Promenade starts at 10 a.m. and will be lead by Austin Samba and Las Monas de San Antonio bringing their entertaining combination of rhythm, dance, movement, color, joy and giant mermaid puppets! The parade will feature floats, marchers, music. The parade line-up starts at the corner of CM Allen and Cheatham Street. (You can find a parade route map here.)

The Festival: The 3rd Annual Mermaid Aqua Faire, presented by Tanger Outlets, starts right after the downtown parade and continues the celebration at San Marcos Plaza Park San Marcos Activity Center from 1-7 p.m. Get ready for a great lineup of live music, as well as a variety of food trucks, an art market, and a variety of fun things for children in the Kidzone. And be sure to stop by the Eco Village for hands-on activities about water conservation.

Music Schedule:

  • 12:30 – 2 p.m. – Bidi Bidi Banda
  • 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. – Rochelle & The Sidewinders
  • 5:30 – 7 p.m. – The Deer
