Each year, high school and college students from across the country come to participate in Summer Stock Austin to learn about every part of a professional theatre company. The “company” rehearses for to share fully produced musicals in the Rollins Theatre at the Long Center, and you can catch these talented young performers in several productions this summer. The 2019 season includes How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Sister Act, and Haunted: A Ghost Story which is a new play for kids, as well as the return of Summer Stock Junior Day Camp — a special drop-off immersive theatre experience with the Summer Stock cast and crew for elementary-aged kids.

–> How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, July 19 – August 10
This satire of big business and all it holds sacred, follows the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch, who uses a little handbook to climb the corporate ladder from lowly window washer to high-powered executive, tackling such familiar but potent dangers as the aggressively compliant “company man,” the office party, backstabbing coworkers, caffeine addiction and, of course, true love. –> Haunted: A Ghost Story, July 23 – August 10
A witch lives in these woods. Beyond the graveyard, inside the ramshackle cabin. And when the moon is full, she lures children to her lair to devour them from the inside out. At least that’s the campfire story they tell the gullible new kids. But is it true? Two siblings and a peculiar band of outsiders are determined to find out. They venture into the darkness to find the witch but soon discover they must confront what has truly been haunting each of them for years. A feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film has audiences jumping to their feet! Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story about how a woman hiding in a convent helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she recovers her own. –> Summer Stock Junior Day Camp, July 30, July 31, August 5, August 6
Sign your kids (ages 5-12) up for the Summer Stock Junior Day Camp. This special one-day camp features an exciting day of music, theatre, and dance includes:
- A performance of our original musical, Haunted
- Backstage tour and meet-and-greet with the cast
- Theatre activities and classes led by the Haunted cast
- Plus all students will learn a song and dance from Haunted.
