Arrrgh, matey! Friday, Sept. 19 is Talk Like a Pirate Day, and we’re goin’ to show ye how ’tis done like a true buccaneer. If ye be lookin’ for some extra fun for your little scallywags, we’ve got just a few ideas. Just beware… if ye’re thinkin’ ye might ignore this important day, ye might be forced to walk th’ plank.

–> Pirate Name:
First up, you’re going to need to figure out a pirate name for you and the kids! That land lubber name you were born with just won’t do. There are several online pirate name generators, such as this one, but if you want a DIY version that is very kid-friendly, check out this one.

Are you getting your “aye aye’s” confused with your “yo ho ho’s”? Here’s a few easy pirate phrases to incorporate into your conversations on Talk Like a Pirate Day.

  • One-token games at Pinballz Arcade
    Pinballz is celebrating this wacky holiday with all pirate theme games costing only 1 token (25 cents) to play, and those who come in wearing a pirate hat will get 4 free tokens!
  • Free donut at Krispy Kreme
    Enter a participating Krispy Kreme and talk like a pirate to get one free glazed doughnut. Or if you show up in full pirate costume, you can get a dozen glazed donuts for free. (Click here to see what qualifies as a full costume.) There are three Austin-area locations: San Marcos, Stassney Lane and Research Blvd.
  • For Grown-ups: Pirate Party at Opal Divine’s
    If you happen to have a babysitter scheduled for a night out, you might want to head over to Opal Divine’s South Congress location from 7 – 11:30 p.m. for pirate festivities including a costume contest and live music from The Swishbucklers, The Jolly Garogers, and Shoulders.
