We’ve been hearing great reviews of ZACH Theatre‘s family show, The Six Seasons which is playing on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Our friend Quel from Homegirl Blog, had the chance to take her son last week and share her thoughts about the production with us. Here’s what she had to say…
On Monday, I took my son to see The Six Seasons, and it was nothing like what I expected. I hadn’t watched any video previews, and even now that I have, it doesn’t do the actual experience justice.
Before the play begins, the audience is introduced to the puppets and encouraged to experience the journey between several continents, not only as a group, rather as individuals from their own point of view. Great care was taken to demonstrate how each person in each individual seat saw the stage from a different perspective. After witnessing the effects of changing climates on frozen continents, Asian islands, African flat lands and right here in Texas, we were reminded of our unique perspectives and the power that each individual has to positively affect climate change in the future.
There’s no real dialogue in the play, but the storytelling of the puppeteers, combined with the staging and music, is exceptional. The settings for each continent are so small and very well suited for viewing close-up, as you may have seen on the Youtube preview video (below), but watching the puppeteers interact with the stage and the audience is truly something cool to see.
The Six Seasons is educational, thought-provoking entertainment suitable for people age 7 and up—perfect for the whole family. It’s potentially a great conversation starter about how individuals, families, groups and organizations can do one small thing to literally change the world.
