For over 30 years, ZACH Theatre‘s top-notch Education Department has offered a variety of fun classes, workshops & camps that give kids of all ages the chance to express themselves creatively, build confidence, and develop the important lesson of teamwork.
ZACH’s Spring Classes are starting now with a wide variety of fun themes — Moana, Peter Pan, Annie, stories of Mo Williams, The Greatest Showman, improv, jazz, and more. Our own kids have had such great experiences with ZACH that we wanted to point out five things we love about their education programs:
1. Something for ALL ages. When we say all ages, we really mean it! Their current spring class schedule offers parent/child classes for little ones as young as 12 months old, and acting studies for students up through 12th grade. Of course, there are fun classes and workshops for all in between, organized by age-group to ensure that all activities are designed to be developmentally-appropriate and fun.
2. Not a future Academy Award Winner? No problem. Worried that your child won’t be as good as some of the other performers? Maybe your child is not the best singer or dancer? Honestly, it does not matter! Children of all talents are invited to join in on the fun of creative expression. Be silly & playful, act out stories, make friends, and simply embrace the joy that comes with performing arts. (Of course, skill levels are more advanced for older kids/teens. But if you have questions in regards to your child’s abilities, simply reach out to the Education team & they can answer any questions you have about finding the right class.)
3. Builds Confidence & More. Time and time again, ZACH staff has noted that a child may come into their program feeling really shy and hesitant only to find a safe space to “come out of their shell”. The team-building process of creating live performances really does help give a boost of confidence to all kids. At the end of each class or camp, they end up with skills they can be proud to show off to Mom and Dad. Beyond this, studies show that getting kids involved in the performing arts also enhances cognitive, motor, and social development, too. Check out this article from Scholastic for interesting research: How the Performing Arts Benefit Kids.
4. Great Teachers. All classes are taught by professionals in the field who are excited about teaching young actors about the process of creating theatre — which results in such a fun atmosphere for learning.
5. Two Locations. With classes and camps held at both their Main Campus downtown as well as their North Campus, you can take your pick of facilities that’s convenient to you!
