An extra day off might mean sleeping in and lazing around the house without a care. But for those of you eager to get out and do something special, we’ve rounded up a list of ideas for family activities on Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 2017. No matter what you choose, go have a great time and enjoy your extra day of play!
What To Do on Labor Day:
— If you haven’t already, make a “Welcome Kit” for Hurricane Harvey evacuees. Austin Mayor Steve Adler put out the call for help on this, asking locals to create 6,000 of these kits for the Austin Disaster Relief Network. You can watch his video and find the list of items needed per kit online here. This is a an easy task to do with the kids and get them involved in helping those in need. — Kids can have a blast at the last Round Rock Express baseball game of the season! This game starts at 12:05 p.m. on Monday with $1 hot dogs and $1 sodas up for grabs. All fans can run the bases following this final game. Lawn tickets start at only $7. Click here to purchase online.
— Go on a Scavenger Hunt at the Science Mill! Visit this children’s museum in Johnson City during Labor Day Weekend (open 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Monday) where you can gather clues, crack codes, and find treasure! Use a smartphone as you set off to explore the Mill’s newest exhibits, like the Incredible Ball machine, Fossil Dig and Axolotl, to gather clues. Then, decide what is fact vs. fiction. Only the right choice will lead you to treasure! Free with regular admission: $8:50 for kids, $10 for adults.
— Labor Day in Austin means it’s time for the annual Free Day of Yoga! You’ll find events all around town, all day long. Participating studios across the Austin area will offer free classes for people of every age and fitness level.
— While many pools have closed around town, area splash pads are still keeping us cool until September 24, 2017. So grab your towels and sunscreen and let the kids splash away the day. All splash pads are FREE and open from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. If swimming pools are more of your thing, take note that Barton Springs, Deep Eddy and Stacy pools operate on a year-round basis; and many municipal pools will be open from 12-7 p.m. on Labor Day.
