After an 11-year stay in L.A., ESPN has decided to bring the coveted games to Texas. They’re setting up shop at COTA, the 1600-acre facility in southeast Austin. The games are doing things a little different this year. In addition to having the chance to see some of the best action sports athletes around, you’ll also be able to hear live music from artists like Gary Clark Jr., Flaming Lips and Kanye West. They’ve also added nine interactive “villages” where attendees can do everything from recording their own music, to laser tag, to arcade games, to go-kart racing, to Texas-style fun and everything in between. Most exciting for families will probably be The Playground, where kids can swing, bungee jump, play King of the Hill and compete in a hip-hop horsey race. Older kids can play hydro tag, run an obstacle course and get a taste of the X Games adrenaline via giant gyroscopes.
Kids will also love seeing the best skateboarders and BMXers go head to head in Freestyle, Big Air, Best Whip, Vert and Moto X competitions. Live music from Pretty Lights, Bad Religion, Wavves, Not in the Face, Mayer Hawthorne and many, many more will satisfy all the musical tastes in the family.
