Edward Rendon, Sr. Festival Beach – This 508-acre park has five barbecue pits and sits on Ladybird Lake so you can cook out with a view! There is a playground for the kids and 10 picnic tables scattered throughout where you can set up shop. Located at 2101 Bergman Dr., 78702, this park on the east side is centrally located and easy to get to.

 

Emma Long Metropolitan Park – There are nearly 70 barbecue pits and 151 picnic tables at this 1100-acre park that runs along Lake Austin. You can camp, swim, cook out, hike, fish or even play volleyball. This park is not free, but it’s just $5 per car Monday – Thursday. The cost jumps up to $10 per car Friday through Sunday. If you wish to camp there are additional fees of $10 – $25. The park entrance is at 1706 City Park Rd., 78730.

 

Dick Nichols District Park – Located in southwest Austin, this 152-acre park has nine barbecue pits to choose from. It also has a pretty sweet playground, two tennis courts and a mile’s worth of trails. It’s a favorite of the neighborhood and a great place for the family. You can find it at 8011 Beckett Rd., 78749.

 

Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park – This 342-acre park off Slaughter Ln. has it all – a disc golf course, an off-leash area for your dog, 18 picnic tables, a play ground, six miles of trails, a basketball court, tennis courts, soccer fields and 10 barbecue pits. Located at 907 W. Slaughter Ln., 78748, this is a destination that will please all age groups.

Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park – Take your pick from nearly 40 barbecue pits at this 1872-acre park that surrounds Walter E. Long Lake. Located at 6614 Blue Bluff Rd., 78724, this park has 78 picnic tables, three picnic shelters and three reservable facilities. There is a $4 per car admission fee on weekdays, price goes up to $8 Friday through Sunday.
