Do512 Family - What to do in Austin with Kids

Book Buddies Program at Town Lake Animal Center

The only thing cuter than cats are little elementary school kids reading to cats. The sauce on top of all that awesome is the kids’ exposure to the no-kill shelter environment and their chance to do some meaningful summer reading at the Town Lake Animal Center’s Feline Leukemia Cat Sanctuary.

Book Buddies is a great volunteer program for kids from first grade and up. Summer reading can get tedious now that we’re one month into summer. Shake things up by getting your little one’s first volunteer experience under their belt during a reading enrichment experience they will never forget.

From the AustinPetsAlive.org site:

Book Buddies is a way to create a social environment in our Feline Leukemia (FeLV) Cat Sanctuary. The program is designed to promote youth awareness of the shelter environment and the No-Kill movement through reading. Children from 1st grade and up who are able to read at any level may come into Town Lake Animal Center with an adult to read to the cats in our FeLV Sanctuary. The program will help children improve their reading skills, while also helping to socialize the cats at APA!

Sign up at Volunteer Spot, or visit the Austin Pets Alive Volunteer site for more information.

Hope you’re ready for your cute overload!

Happy Reading!
