Friday:
— Circus Chickendog presents The Wizard of Dogz, a show that features six rescue dogs and one macaw performing circus feats and tricks. Enjoy puppets, juggling, unicycling and live musicians in this weird interpretation of the movie classic, “The Wizard of Oz”. If you haven’t been to a Circus Chickendog show yet, Do512 Family highly recommends it! Tickets are $12 and you can buy them here or at the door. Show will be at 3 pm at the Institution Theater.
— Dress up the kiddos in their best shark-themed costume for the Shark Week Skating Party at Chaparral Ice Center. Enjoy on-ice games, food, treats and beach-themed music. Things will get scary when they turn out the lights at 8 pm! Admission and skate rental costs $10 for ages 5 and up, $5 for ages 4 and under and the party is from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.
— Take a night off and let the wee ones enjoy Kids Night Out at The Little Yoga House from 5 – 9 pm. Ages 3 and up (must be potty trained) will do yoga in their PJs, eat pizza, watch a movie, enjoy foot rubs and relax. Cost is $40 per child, must pre-register online.
Saturday:
— The Legends of Robin Hood premieres at Scottish Rite Theater with showtimes at 11 am and 1 pm. Directly from Sherwood Forest Faire, Austin’s own Renaissance festival, Robin Hood and his merry band of outlaws will be stirring up mischief with live archery, live music and tons of fun! Tickets are $7 for ages 12 and under, $10 for 13 and up. You can purchase tickets here.
— You’ll find all of your home and garden needs at the 19th Annual Austin Fall Home and Garden Show, happening at the Austin Convention Center. Peruse through tons of displays, take advantage of show only prices, hang out in the Kids’ Zone, get schooled at a DIY/Gardening seminar and learn from celebrities and experts. Open from 10 am – 7 pm Saturday and 11 am – 5 pm Sunday. Tickets are free for ages 16 and under and $8.50 for adults. Save $2 on admission by purchasing tickets online.
— The 7th Annual Classic Game Fest at the Palmer Event Center is just $10 for a 2-day pass (Saturday & Sunday) and free for kids 12 and under. The fest will feature tons of retro games, arcade games, classic consoles, tournaments, live music and even comedy. Open 10 am – 7 pm on Saturday, and 10 am – 6 pm on Sunday.
— Get crafty at the Austin Craft Riot Summer Show at Austin Music Hall from 11 am – 6 pm. Admission will be $2 for adults and entry for kids will be free! Peruse the goods of 70+ vendors, get a chair massage and let the kids do their own DIY crafts or chill out in the video game area.
Sunday:
— Wake up and see a free movie! Alamo Kids Camp movies are first come, first serve, so arrive around 30 minutes early to be sure and get a seat. You can see “Babe“ at Alamo Lakeline at 10, or “Corpse Bride“ at Alamo Village at 10:30 am, or “Rango“ at Alamo Slaughter Lane at 9:25 am.
— See The Wizard of Oz at the Boyd Vance Theater, located inside the George Washington Carver Museum, at either 2 pm or 4 pm. Get there early, free tickets will be handed out 45 minutes prior to showtime, though people begin to line up about an hour beforehand. Your whole group doesn’t need to be present to receive tickets, one adult can get the amount of tickets needed for their family. After you receive your tickets, you are welcome to leave and come back, or you can check out the exhibits at the museum. You must be seated five minutes before showtime.
— Get a relaxing workout at the Free Family Yoga class at Wooldridge Square Park with the lovely instructors from The Little Yoga House. Bring water and a mat, class starts at 9:30 am.
