— The iconic Harlem Globetrotters will be at the Frank Erwin Center at 7 p.m. with a fun family-friendly show. Check out their rim-rattling dunks and trick shots, along with comedy and interaction with the fans. This is surely more than your average basketball game. Tickets start at $17 per person and can be purchased online here.

— Check out a family-friendly dance showcase from 7-9 p.m. at the Dougherty Arts Center. Planet Music Concert Series: Dance Around the World will include 4 dance groups representing different regions of the world, featuring the Afrique Gninze, The Love of China, Ballet Folklorico MariCruz, and Austin International Folk Dancers representing Eastern Europe, and Korobushka playing songs from the Balkans. Free and open to the public!

— Plan for a day of fresh air and family fun at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center’s annual Tree Talk Winter Walk. Admission is free at this event from 9 a.m. – 5 pm. Celebrate Texas trees while learning about tree care, browse a selection of native trees for sale, take a guided walk, and enjoy lots of really fun activities for kids such as climbing trees, building forts and much more.

The Six Seasons is an innovative new production for families playing at the ZACH Theatre at 11 a.m. This thought-provoking play (geared towards children ages 7 and up) uses puppets to show the effects of climate change on distinct environments around the globe. Tickets start at $15 and can be purchased online here.

Austin Family Magazine‘s 17th Annual Summer Camp Fair is a great place to start researching summer childcare options for the kids. You can visit the Palmer Events Center from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. for this free camp fair that also features family entertainment and giveaways.

— Take the kids roller skating at Playland Skate Center from 10 a.m. – noon. Help raise scholarship funds at the AHB Community School’s Annual Skate Party — which is open to the whole Austin community, and all ages are welcome. There will be a baked goods and Taco Deli tacos for sale, too. Tickets are $10 each or 4 for $35.

— Stop by the Thinkery for the last day that the JUNK exhibit will be on display. (You can check out our photo review of this exhibit here.) To commemorate JUNK’s successful run, artist Zach Dorn will perform an original live-projection puppet show entitled, “It Was the Coldest Year“, several times during the day on Sunday. Click here to check out the puppet show schedule. Admission: $9 for adults & children: free for kids ages 0-23 months; $1 off for seniors; $2 off for military; FREE on Sunday from 5-6 p.m.

— The Mexic-Arte Museum will host their free Family Day from 1-4 p.m. All ages are welcome to attend this public event where you’ll be invited to participate in a zine-making workshop led by artist, Claudia Aparicio-Gamundi. A zine is a self-published and self-circulated magazine, normally containing images and writings. Go create something cool!

— Take the kids to Ballet Austin’s Family Dance Workshop where instructors will teach you excerpts from The Carnival of the Animals. The workshop will take place from 2:30 – 3:45 p.m. at the  AustinVentures Studio Theatre, and is recommended for children ages 3 to 10 and their family members. The cost is $10/person for children and adults. To attend, you must register online here.

— Enjoy the beauty of the big Texas sky on a Star Gazing and Moonlight Tour at the Wild Basin Wildnerness Preserve from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Members of the Austin Astronomical Society share telescopes with you for viewing during the astronomy tour. Reserve your spot by calling (512) 327-7622. Cost is $5 per adult and $3 for seniors & students in grades K-12. Preschool children are free and must be accompanied by a parent.
