Here are our Top Austin Family Events…
— The Three Little Pigs opens at ZACH’s Kleberg Stage at 6:30 p.m., and Fry’s Fun Farm will be providing a free petting zoo before this Opening Night performance! Arrive as early as 5:30 p.m. to play in this pen filled with pigs (of course), sheep, goats, rabbits, geese, and more. Plus, afterwards, you can enjoy a meet-and-greet with the cast and cookies at a free post-show reception. Youth tickets are $15 & adult tickets are $20. — Help support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas at Trudy’s Bowl for Kids. Whether you’re a bowler, donor or a sponsor, your participation in this annual event helps more kids get paired with mentors. This year’s theme is “Superheroes” so you can grab your mask and cape and head to Highland Lanes. There are several time slots available. For more info and a FAQ, click here.
— Take part in a free, family-friendly, all-day music and street festival in the downtown 2ND Street District. The 4th Annual 2ND Street Soundcheck features twelve bands, local crafts, great food, and plenty of kids activities. This event runs from 1-8 p.m., is open to the entire community, and no tickets or RSVPs are required. Click here for the music lineup.
— It’s the last weekend to check out Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote: A Migrant’s Tale at the Scottish Rite Theatre! In this play, Pancho Rabbit meets danger at every stage of his journey to find his missing Papá. Catch the show today at 11 a.m. or tomorrow at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online here and will also be sold at the door. $8 for kids 12 and under, $12 for adults. Read our review of the show…
— The Alamo Kid’s Club presents a free screening of Big Top Pee-Wee at 11 a.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. Tickets will be available (for ages 3 and up) at the box office on the day of the show on a first come, first served (so plan to arrive early). Austin toy store, Toy Joy, will be on hand with free toys and games!
— Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum will host Free Family Day from noon – 4 p.m. Bring the whole family for yoga, story time, art, music and more in the peaceful & picturesque gardens full of beautiful sculptures. And at this special Family Day event, you can create a one of a kind kite to fly at Zilker Kite Festival!
— We’re very excited for the 86th Annual Zilker Park Kite Festival (and we’re crossing fingers it’s not postponed.) Everyone’s invited to pack a picnic, bring the kids and dogs, show off your best kite-flying skills from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. And this year, Do512 Family will be at the Kite Festival near the Kids Zone with lots of great swag to give away including a WOOM bike to raffle off! **The rain date is scheduled for Sunday, Mar. 8, and if the event has to be postponed, we’ll be sure to let you. — Celebrate Texas Independence Day at the Bullock Texas State History Museum during their First Free Sunday event from noon – 5 p.m. Enjoy free admission, live music, hands-on activities, food, and a Texas-sized attempt to set a world record! — Take the kids to meet Jungle Jack Hanna and his animals. Animal expert, Jack Hanna, has traveled from Antarctica to Asia spreading his passion for animal conservation. And now he’s traveling the country with his stage show, Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild Live!. Families can check out this exciting show featuring live animals at the Paramount Theatre at 2 p.m. Tickets are $32 – $67 and can be purchased online here.
— The 6th Annual Sherwood Forest Faire! runs every weekend through Sunday, Mar. 29 from 10 a.m. – dusk in McDade, Texas — rain or shine. Be magically transported back in time at this fun-filled, charming Renaissance Faire based on the tales of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. Enjoy faeries, swordplay, theatre, magic, comedy, and games.
