Here are our Top Austin Family Events...
— Calling all creative builders, LEGO® enthusiasts and families looking for a fun night of play time… Join us at the Thinkery for Family Night celebrating Bricks & Blocks! Snap it, design it, build it and have a great time at this special after-hours party from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. where parents and kids can explore the Thinkery in a whole new way with lots of special hands-on stations packed with LEGO, Duplo® and other blocks. You can purchase your tickets for Family Night at the Thinkery online here. Tickets range from $11- $15, and kids age 2 & under are free.
— In My Own Backyard is a new interactive theatre experience created by Pollyanna Theatre Company for children ages 18 months to 4 years old and shows at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the Long Center’s AT&T room through Saturday. Bring your young ones for 40 minutes of sheer joy, learning and play time! All group tickets (for 10 people or more) are $4 each. Individual tickets are $6 each. — Mondo Gallery is celebrating the much anticipated release of Jurassic World by presenting a new gallery show entitled “When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth”. This exhibit is on display Friday, June 12 through Saturday, June 27 and features dozens of artists contributing screen prints and original dinosaur-themed art. You can attend the free Opening Reception of this gallery show on Friday, June 12 from 7-10 p.m.
— The brand new 120,000-square-foot Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World is now open in Round Rock, and is celebrating with a weekend of giveaways and special vendor exhibits. Click here to view the list of events from today through Sunday.
— Everyone is invited to the Austin Duck Derby Kick-Off Party from 5-8 p.m. at the Whole Foods Market Domain location where you can adopt your ducks that will take part in the Austin Duck Derby (on Aug. 8), learn more about this fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Austin, and enjoy family-friendly fun such as face painting, kids crafts, prizes, giveaways and more!
— Teach the kids all about the Fab Four at the opening day of the traveling museum exhibit, “Ladies and Gentlemen…The Beatles!” at the LBJ Presidential Library! Expect a little dose of “Beatlemania” in Austin at the free, family-friendly daylong party that celebrates the opening of this exhibit with live music from The Eggman along with bites from local food trucks. These opening day festivities are open to the public from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Free!
— You can take the family to Laguna Gloria between 11 a.m. – 3 p.m where the kids can make stringy monsters! Every month, The Contemporary Austin at Laguna Gloria offers hands-on art-making workshops for children ages 2 – 11. Drop in and create! $10 per family or $5 for museum member families.
— Your taste buds are in for a major treat at the Taste of North Austin event from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at The Domain! The 8th annual family food festival will feature delectable bites, beverage sampling, cooking demos, free live music and children’s entertainment. Live music and children’s entertainment are FREE! But food samplings will require wristbands. Wristbands include 10 tastes, and will be available for $20 at the event.
— You can head South of Austin to Buda, TX for the Cabela’s Kids Day event from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. with fun, free outdoor activities for the entire family. Cabela’s is partnering with the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation for their biggest annual kids event. Activities include a catch and release fishing pond, daisy bb gun range, youth archery, treasure hunting with metal detectors and more.
— Your train lovers will be so excited to see Wilson, Brewster and Koko live on stage at the Long Center in Chuggington Live! The Great Rescue Adventure. This musical children’s show, based on the popular TV series, gives young fans and their families the opportunity to experience the exciting adventures of the colorful Chuggington trainees right before their eyes.
