Riding the Zilker Zephyr Train

When’s the last time you took a ride on the Zilker Zephyr? Every once in a while, we hop aboard with the family and are always happy to see that the kids love it every time. Zilker Park‘s miniature train takes you on a 20-minute ride around the park at a leisurely pace. It is certainly fun for Austinites, and it’s an especially nice activity for visitors, too.

Our kids are always delighted to go for a ride! This simple little train appeals to many ages. And it seems that parents and grandparents have just as much fun as the kids.

The Zilker Zephyr departs just across from Barton Springs Pool. You can pick up tickets about 15 min. before the ride. The train leaves every hour on the hour through the week and departs every 30-40 minutes on the weekends, weather permitting. (Of course, we have gone before when things were not 100% on schedule. Just be aware that you may need to be flexible with departure times being slightly off.)

Summertime Tip: Get there early in the summer months. Spend some time on the playground before your ride (and before that metal antique fire truck gets blazing hot). If you can get on the first morning train (leaves at 10 a.m.), the temperatures are still very tolerable. Also, consider taking your swim suits for a jump in Barton Springs after your ride. The pool is right there across the path, and those cool waters looks so tempting!
