— Join the fun at the Metz Recreation Center where families can celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day! Enjoy FREE games, food, door prizes and music. Activities will take place from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., and after the fiesta, you can stick around for a free screening of Rio at 8:15 p.m.
— If you’re in need of children’s clothing, toys, books and baby gear, you can check out the Fairytale Threads Consignment Sale for great prices. The event will open to the public with free admission at Austin Sports Center in Cedar Park from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. today (and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. tomorrow).
— Take the kids to meet butterflies and caterpillars on Monarch Appreciation Day at Zilker Botanical Garden from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. This fun, family-friendly event will include lots of crafts for kids as well as gardening tips, a plant sale, lectures and more! This special event is free, but regular admission fees are still required ($1 for kids ages 3-12, $2 for adults who are Austin residents, $3 for non-resident adults). — Take your little Longhorn fans to celebrate the excitement of UT Football at Fan Fest at the University Co-op from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. At this FREE event you can take photos with cooper and enjoy food trucks, face painting, and giveaways.
— Cirque du Soleil has returned to Austin to wow audiences with their big top production, KOOZA, at Circuit of The Americas with shows today at 4:30 p.m. & 8 p.m. KOOZA is set in an zany world full of surprises, thrills and chills with high wire and trapeze acts, contortion and amazing acrobatics. — The whole family is invited to the MACC (Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center) from 6-9 p.m. for ¡VIVA MÉXICO! — Get ready for car-crushing excitement! The Volunteer Fire Department in Spicewood, TX will host their big annual fundraiser, the Destruction Derby. The gates at the Spicewood Fire Hall will open at 4 p.m. and races will start at 6 p.m. Click here to read more about what to expect.
— Run, walk or fly to the 2015 CASA Superhero Run where you can be a superhero for children who’ve been abused or neglected. This event starts at 7 a.m. at The Domain and includes a 5K and Kids 1K as well as a superhero costume contest, an obstacle course, bounce house, special superhero guest appearances and lots of special family activities! — From 12- 5 p.m. today, East 6th Street will be transformed into a car-free playground during the annual VIVA! STREETS community event. This free festival invites you to play, get fit, people watch, and celebrate good health. During the event, one-mile of East 6th Street will become a safe place for families to play. It will also be filled with activities like hula hooping, ping pong, giant chess, jump roping, chalk art, obstacle course, bike polo, a craft area, soccer, basketball, and more.
