Get ready for the biggest annual celebration of comic books! Free Comic Book Day takes place on Saturday, May 7 when you and the kids can head over to your favorite local comic store to pick up your very own freebies. It’s a great time to find new comics, dress up in costume, get the kids motivated in reading, and simply have fun with the community.

1Austin Books & Comics
Open from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., Austin Books & Comics will let each visitor choose 10 free comics from a wide selection, many of which lead into the biggest events and new series of the year! They will also have prize drawings, artist signings at 10 a.m. & 2 p.m., a costume photo area and more. For details, check out their Facebook event page.

Dragons Lair Comics and Fantasy
At Dragons Lair, they are celebrating with a Civil War theme in honor the release of the film, Captain America: Civil War. On site this year they’ll have a bounce house, free snow cones, and plenty of cosplayers and fun for all ages throughout the day! Be sure to show up early, comics are available while supplies last. They note that doors will open at 10 a.m. but the line usually starts forming around 7-8 a.m. For more info, you can visit their website.

Tribe Comics and Games
They’ll be giving away books all day from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., and it’s a great way to find some cool new things to read. They’ll have books of all kinds, including plenty that are great for all ages. For more info, you can visit their website.

Rogues Gallery Comics and Games (Round Rock)
They will feature a wide assortment will feature a wide assortment of books from Archie, Bongo, DC, Marvel, Boom!, IDW and lots more. In addition to previews of Marvel and DC’s big summer crossovers, characters and properties featured include Doctor Who, Suicide Squad, Serenity, Bob’s Burgers, Pokemon, Sonic, Grumpy Cat, Spongebob, Transformers, Legend of Korra, the Avengers, Attack on Titan, One Punch Man, Street Fighter, The Tick and more! Titan Moon Comics (Cedar Park)
From 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., you can expect guest artists, hourly raffles, special giveaways for the first 20 customers and an artist doing free sketches from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. For more info, visit their Facebook event page.
