This weekend you can join us on Saturday for Do512 Family‘s Summer Forever Series with a fun screening of The Karate Kid! You can also take the kids to the Austin Ice Cream Festival, a Back to School Bash, Family Day at the UMLAUF, or enjoy some live theatre as you watch The Little Mermaid, Shrek, Robin Hood, or Mary Poppins.
— Austin ISD Fine Arts Department is presenting a district-wide summer musical! Student actors, singers, dancers, musicians and crew in 5th grade & up have come together from different schools throughout Austin to present a Disney’s The Little Mermaid at 7 p.m. at the AISD Performing Arts Center. (This show is playing through Sunday, August 14). Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults, which you can purchase in advance online here.
— It’s the last weekend to bring the kids out to Shrek The Musical at the Zilker Hillside Theatre! This free show starts at 8:15 p.m. You can arrive as early as 6 p.m. to get a good spot on the hillside. Click here to read more about what to know before you go. You won’t want to miss this show!
— Join us for our Summer Forever Series with a screening of The Karate Kid (1984 version) today at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. Meet us in the lobby at 10 – 10:30 a.m. for pre-movie shenanigans with Bam Academy. We’re giving away loads of tickets to this event! Click here to enter to win.
— I scream, you scream, let’s scream for ice cream at the 10th Annual Austin Ice Cream Festival! Families can head to Fiesta Gardens from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., for TONS of ice cream, kids activities, contests, food trucks and more. Tickets are $15, and kids 8 & under are free! — Get excited about the new school year at the Mueller Back to School Bash from 10 a.m. – noon at the Browning Hangar. This free, family-friendly festival will include snacks, games, and free school supplies. There will also be a photo booth, obstacle course, face painting, balloons & more.
— Direct from the Sherwood Forest Faire comes the exciting adventures of Robin Hood in Robin Hood & Maid Marian’s Wedding at Austin Scottish Rite Theater. See live sword fighting, archery and more today at 11 a.m. (Runs August 21.) Admission is $12 for adults, $8 children under age 12, and free for children ages 2 & under. — Beat the heat with an icy workshop at Laguna Gloria from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.! Paint with ice cubes then watch professional ice sculptor Sean Leahy create a one-of-a-kind work of art. Recommended for ages 2–11. This is a free workshop, but you must click here to reserve your spot.
— The Austin Zoo is hosting a Back to School Bash today from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. You can join Lucas Miller, the “Singing Zoologist” for a performance in the Events Pavilion at 10 a.m. Then see if you can solve a Zoo Sleuths mystery (geared towards ages 2-5). — It’s Family Day at the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden & Museum. Enjoy activities geared towards children ages four to ten from 12 – 4 p.m. Listen to stories, do yoga in the garden, watch sculpture demos, enjoy live music and more. Free and open to the public.
— Mary Poppins is delighting audiences of all ages at ZACH Theatre! See this practically perfect nanny in the big musical production.
