— Want some inspiration for home improvement projects? Attend the Austin Fall Home & Garden Show at the Austin Convention Center today from 2-5 p.m. where you’ll get plenty of ideas. (Also open Saturday & Sunday.) You’ll find the latest in products and services for everything from builders, contractors, materials, decks, pools, spas, storage, plants, landscaping, kitchenware and much more. — Enjoy a free movie night featuring Pixar’s Inside Out at Community First! Village, presented by Alamo Drafthouse and Mobile Loaves & Fishes. Grab chairs, a blanket, bring family and friends. — Stop by the Girlstart STEM Center between 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. for Girlstart’s Back to School STEM Saturday where kids of all ages (boys and girls) can get excited about science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Hands-on activities include making ooey gooey slime, soaring straw rockets, spooky boo bubbles & more. This event is free, but RSVPs are requested.
— Nature-lovers, visit Jonestown, Texas today for the annual Swift Fest from 4:30 -10 p.m. Witness hundreds of small birds, chimney swifts, arrive in a tornado-like sight! Celebrate this annual phenomenon at a FREE festival with a great line-up of live music, art, games & activities for kids, great food, contests, and bird-watching, of course. — Bring the whole family to the Grand Opening Celebration of The Little Yoga House’s newest location at The Village shopping center on W. Anderson Ln. From 3-6 p.m., you’ll get to tour of their new space, meet teachers, enjoy activities and snap some pics in the family-sized photo booth. — The Johnson Center for Child Health and Development invites you to a Back to School Bash at the Austin Recreation Center from 3-5 p.m. with free fun for kids ages 4-12. Check out a variety of booths, crafts, bounce house, photo booth, and presentations that children of all abilities can enjoy. The first 50 kids will receive a free bag of school supplies. — The Texas Museum of Science and Technology in Cedar park is teaming up with Amy’s Ice Creams to host Science Saturday: Science of Flavor today from 4 – 6 p.m. Bring the kids for hands-on activities, tasty treats, and fun presentations by Amy’s on the science behind creating their delicious flavors. You can also check out the museum’s interactive physics exhibits, a planetarium, and the newest fossil exhibition. Museum admission is $15 for adults, $13 for ages 12-17, $11 for ages 5-11 and free for ages 4 & under.
— Celebrate the success of the first week of school at an Outdoor Movie Night at TOM’s Roasting Co. on South Congress. Join the fun in their backyard space at a Frozen Sing-Along! The film starts at 8 p.m., and kids are encouraged to dress up in costume. This event is open to all and free!
— Celebrate the Dog Days of Summer at HOPE Farmers Market featuring an open call dog show at 12:30 p.m., a doggie photo booth, rescue pups available for adoption, locally-made dog treats, music from Bob Appel and more. The market is open for shopping at Plaza Saltillo from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
— Tonight is the last Hartman Foundation “Concerts in the Park” of the season at the Long Center. Join the Austin Symphony Orchestra as they perform Big Band music for free at 7:30 p.m.
