27th Annual Homestead Fair

Skip the after-Thanksgiving holiday mall madness for a family day trip to Waco for the 27th Annual Homestead Fair at Homestead Craft Village at Brazos de Dios on Friday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Nov. 29.  You can enjoy some old-fashioned family fun from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Friday & Saturday and 12 – 5 p.m. on Sunday. Milk a cow, help with a barn raising, and watch a master craftsman turn a plain old log into a chair right before your eyes. Kids can also check out a big variety of Make-Your-Own projects like beeswax candle dipping, felting, soap making, cross-stitching, blacksmithing, woodworking and more. Admission is free!

Here’s a sample of what to expect at the Homestead Fair:

— Craft Demonstrations: Each day in the craft pavilion, you’ll find a wide variety of ongoing homestead craft demonstrations – woodworking with hand tools, broom making, basket making, leatherwork, etc.

— Agricultural Exhibits: At Heritage Farm, watch agricultural demonstrations including draft horse farming, butter and cheese making, brick-oven bread baking and cider pressing, as well as exhibits on beekeeping, poultry raising, and farm animals.

— Music: Gather under the music tent with us for gospel songs and bluegrass music each afternoon of the Fair, as well as Friday and Saturday evenings.

— Seminars: The seminars at the fair are presented by The Ploughshare Institute for Sustainable Culture, which is the educational branch of the Homestead Heritage community. It is dedicated to perpetuating a sense of intentional community, which includes rediscovering the knowledge and skills that can provide for essential human needs (both socially and spiritually as well as materially) on a sustainable basis.

— Food: Throughout each day you’ll find tasty food at the outdoor concession booths and kiosks. Try a sizzling beef sausage-on-a-stick or a spicy, grilled chicken gordita. Sample fresh whole wheat bread baked in a brick oven or try one of our specialty flavors of ice cream.
