When it comes to dining out with the kids, we’re big fans of food truck parks. There’s zero pressure for the wiggly little ones to be on their best restaurant behavior or use their indoor voices. Plus, there are many options to appeal to every family member’s varied tastes.
We recently stopped into 5000 Burnet, a food trailer park in the Rosedale neighborhood of North-Central Austin on the increasingly popular stretch of Burnet Rd. You can’t miss the giant Gourdough’s doughnut perched atop the air stream trailer when you enter.
5000 Burnet includes many food trucks, a small fenced playscape, is dog-friendly and is even BYOB. They have a pretty great selection of cuisine to choose from:
- The Grip Coffee Company
- Watzab – Thai
- The B’s Kitchen – Vietnamese & Asian
- Budare’s – Venezualen
- Tita’s – Mexican tortas
- The Big Kahuna – Polynesian & Hawaiian
- T-Loc’s – Sonoran-style hot dogs
- Shishman Kebap – Mediterranean
- Taco Sweets – ice cream tacos
- Gourdough’s – doughnuts
We made a bee-line for The B’s Kitchen and had a very delicious plate of spicy sriracha tofu with noodles. The kids picked pork sliders from The Big Kahuna, which they gave two thumbs up. And we couldn’t resist some Gourdough’s big, fat doughnuts to share for dessert.
There is a small playscape for little ones, which is always a plus anywhere we go. And there are restrooms onsite (not porta-potties — bonus). While the trucks are mostly situated around a parking lot, the trailer park does its best to provide customers with a break from the sun with plenty of umbrellas and shade coverings.
5000 Burnet is definitely worth a stop in for lunch or dinner — or even just dessert. This food trailer park is open 7 days a week, but since the trailers are mostly family-operated the hours can vary slightly per truck and many are only open Tuesdays through Saturdays. To get the hours of each truck, and for more info, you can visit the 5000 Burnet website and Facebook page.
