On Saturday, Jan. 31 you can enjoy a morning hike, an afternoon workshop and the chance to become a junior park ranger. These events are free with paid admission ($6 per adult, kids 12 and under are free).
The Park will be open from 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, and will be hosting these free events:
— Saturday Morning Hike, 8:30 – 10 a.m.
Time to get outside and enjoy nature! Join a ranger for a guided hike through McKinney Falls State Park. Nature and history will be discussed. Wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water.
— Become a Jr. Ranger, (anytime during park office hours)
Do you think your kids would like to become a park ranger? Kids can complete a Junior Ranger activity book and earn their official badge. All you have to do is ask at the front office for a book, then bring it back when you’re all done. This program can be completed during park office hours, and all ages are welcome to participate.
— When Nature Sings, 2-4 p.m.
Connect with nature in this interactive workshop. Those connected to an indigenous culture know that, everyday, nature communicates with humanity through expressive performances that bring meaning to life. In this workshop participants will learn about Taino spirituality through inspirational anecdotes, role playing, and music making feature the live native flute. Led by Tekina-eiru, a proud blood descendent of the native Tainos of Puerto Rico.
