On Monday, Jan. 18, you can celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy at the Annual MLK Community March. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with a short program at the MLK Statue on the University of Texas campus, followed by a March to the State Capitol, and then concludes with a celebration at historic Huston-Tillotson University until 3 p.m.
There will be a short program at the south steps of the State Capitol and marchers will continue on to the historic Huston-Tillotson University, where exciting activities are planned. All businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals are invited to march and celebrate Dr. King’s legacy.
— MLK Community Festival:
The MLK Community Festival kicks off as soon as the marchers arrive on location (estimated 11-11:30 a.m.) and will last until 3 p.m., It will include all types of vendors and local music artists.
— Food Drive:
This year, marchers are asked to donate canned goods or non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Capital Area Food Bank. Donation receptacles will be available at the start of the march at The University of Texas as well as at the Community Festival at Huston-Tillotson University.
