Here are our Top Austin Family Events…
— Take the kids to hunt for the tiniest of faerie treasures at the annual Woodland Faeire Trail at the Zilker Botanical Garden. You can explore the abodes of the faeries and gnomes along the trail during daytime hours (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) with regular admission: $1 for children (ages 3-12) and seniors (62 and over), $2 for adults, Austin resident (ages 13-61), $3 for adults, non-resident. Or you can plan to visit afterhours for the Woodland Faerie Trail By Starlight experience! Enjoy hot cocoa and cider, entertainers and music. Nighttime admission is $6/person, $7/nonresident or $15/family.
— The 6th Annual Sherwood Forest Faire will be open Friday, Saturday AND Sunday this weekend from 10 a.m. – dusk in McDade, Texas — rain or shine. Enjoy faeries, swordplay, theatre, magic, comedy, and games. Tickets at the gate are $20/per adult and $10/per child. If you order online here, you tickets are only $17/adult and $9/child. — You can check out the Eco Light Garden from 7 p.m. – 2 a.m. in Republic Square Park. It’s a dreamy illuminated art installation that’s free and open to the public and will run through Saturday, Mar. 21.
— Grab your fishing poles! The City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department presents the Youth Fishing Derby from 7 – 11 a.m. at Bright Lake in Old Settlers Park. The event is free for children ages 3-12, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You must include bring your own poles per child. — Jack and the Beanstalk opens today at the Scottish Rite Theater with shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Enjoy a new modern twist on this classic tale. Live music, puppets, and lots of action make this the perfect show for young kids. Tickets are $6 for children 12 and under, and $10 for ages 13 and up. You can buy them online or at the theater.
— If your kids are big animal lovers, they are in for a treat this week with Circus Chickendog’s show I Ruff You! A Circus Love Story. This unique show stars six rescued circus dogs, a scarlet macaw, juggling, unicycling, balancing acts, puppets, accordion music and more. This show is at 10:30 a.m. at the Institution Theatre. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online here.
— Lonestar Dance is presenting a free performance at 7:30 p.m. at the Zilker Hillside Theatre. You can take a blanket and spread out on the hill to watch a performance that is open to the public. With their show, Matters of the Heart, the Lonestar Dance Center aims to spread the message to: “Stop bullies. Build confidence. Love one another.”
— Wrap up your Spring Break at the 2015 Mad Tiger Festival at Mueller Lake Park Outdoor Amphitheater. Take the kids for some high-energy fun at this free party from 1-5 p.m. featuring really entertaining bands, food, art activities and toys. RSVP here for free entry.
— Kids won’t miss out on any of the rockin’ fun during SXSW! In fact, you can take the whole family to a free party geared especially towards children from 3 – 7:30 p.m. at The Domain. Kids of all ages are invited Rock + Chalk, produced by Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child & Orange Wall Collective, to celebrate the arrival of spring on the newly completed lawn area in Domain II. Children can enjoy a chalk art zone and LOTS of other free activities including music lessons, a musical instrument petting zoo, temporary tattoos, costumed character appearances, a dance contest with prizes, giveaways and more. — The Three Little Pigs is a “Great Big Little Broadway Show” that’s playing on weekends now through Saturday, Apr. 25 at ZACH Theatre. Perfect for ages 3 and up, this family show is filled with laugh-out-loud humor and really fun music. Playing today at 2 p.m. & 4:30 p.m. Youth tickets are $15 & adult tickets are $20.
