— It’s time again for the annual Lonestar Round Up where hot rods, classic cars and bikes will take over the Travis County Expo Center today (and Saturday) at this huge vintage car show. Also check out the music lineup that includes Dale Watson, Jai Malano and more. Wristbands are $15 at the gate. Kids 12 and under free! General parking is free. You can also swing by family-friendly Top Notch Hamburgers at 7 p.m. for a free event featuring more hot rods, music, and classic movies, too.
— Get ready for another season of fun at the Dell Diamond! It’s opening day for the Round Rock Express, and the home team is taking on the Memphis Redbirds at 7:05 p.m. The first 5,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive the 2015 Express season schedule magnet and you can count on a great fireworks show after the game to kick off the Friday night fireworks series! You can purchase tickets for any game online here or in person at the Dell Diamond Box Office. Berm lawn seats are only $7, and you can get reserved seats for $14 and up.
— Kids of all ages will be in awe when 3,500 butterflies take flight during the 17th Annual Butterfly Festival at EmilyAnn Theatre and Gardens in Wimberley, TX. From 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., families can enjoy free admission (donations accepted) at this event that includes games, crafts, nature activities, live entertainment and of course, butterflies!
— Come see us at the Austin Earth Day Festival! This free, family friendly event takes place at Mueller Browning Hangar from noon – 6 p.m. Enjoy hands-on demos, music, food trucks, info sessions on topics such as composting, rain gardens, tiny houses and more. The Kid’s Zone will include crafts and fun for all ages with magic, balloon sculptures, a Box City construction zone, petting zoo, kid’s parade and more! — Bring the family to the Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane to check out Disneynature’s new feature film, Monkey Kingdom, and enjoy some educational activities, too. Starting at 10 a.m., you’ll play games, make crafts, and have the chance to do some real monkey tricks with Austin’s parkour gym, The BAM Academy. Then you can head into the theater to watch the new film at 10:45 a.m. Tickets are $12.95 per person and can be purchased online here.
— Check out ZACH Theatre’s new play, Cenicienta, a new bilingual adaptation of Cinderella that kicks off today and runs through Saturday, May 23. Cenicienta is a Spanish/English version of the classic fairy tale, infused with puppetry, Mexican culture and humor. — Teens can enjoy an afternoon of adventure at the outdoor sculpture park at Laguna Gloria from noon – 3 p.m at an event called Teens Create: Get Lost. Enjoy music, virtual art, DIY lawn games, poetry and more at this free event open to teens ages 13-19.
— If you haven’t had the chance to see The Three Little Pigs at ZACH Theatre, check it out today at 11 a.m or 2 p.m. Fry’s Fun Farm will be hosting a Petting Zoo on the People’s Plaza so you can pet piggies before the show. — Families are invited to attend a free Build-A-Bike Workshop event at Yellow Bike Project, a community bike shop in east Austin, from 1:30 – 4:30. Join Cuéntame Magazine, to learn the ins-and-outs of bike repair and maintenance, meet new friends and bike shop staff, enjoy free pizza, and even have a chance to win a bike! — Camp Mabry is opening its gates to the public for the annual the Texas Miliary Forces Museum Open House and American Heroes Air Show. Check out a large WWII battle reenactment, helicopter and parachute demos, children’s activities, historic military vehicles on display, food vendors, music and more. This event is free and open to the public from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
