Here are our Top Austin Family Events…
— Get ready to find some bargains at the Fairytale Threads Consignment Sale at the Austin Sports Center from (through Sunday, May 30). You’ll find gently-loved clothes, books, toys and more for great prices. This event is free and open to the public.
— Kick off the summer in Brushy Creek at a free, Family Night Out at Cat Hollow Park and Pool from 6-11 p.m. Families can enjoy free pool entrance, food, games, an aquatics showcase, live music and a screening of Big Hero 6!
— The Austin Public Library Youth Summer Reading Program launches with a kick off party today at the Ruiz Branch from 1-4 p.m. At 1 p.m. you can enjoy a peformance by Ms. Kahura, who will take you on an African Safari and then present crafts and activities. At 3 p.m. the Linder Elementary Mariachi group will perform. Free!
— The Austin School of Rock is kicking off the Rock & Roll Summer Camp season with a free one-hour Metal Workshop for ages 8-19 at 11 a.m., headed up by one of Metal’s OGs, Jason McMaster. The Metal Workshop is free, but you must pre-register. To sign up, simply fill in the School of Rock contact form and include “Metal Round Table” in the comments section.
— The Summer Saturday series kick off today at the French Legation Museum. Kids will get to make their own kites and hot air balloons. Guided tours of the Legation and detached kitchen begin at 1:15, 2, 3 and 4 p.m. Suggested donation of $5.

— The Whole Foods Market Domain invites kids and adults to a fun event featuring hot dogs, creative activities for kids, and music from Guy Forsyth Band and Luke Hill & the Hot Pursuits. The event is from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Free.
— Enjoy free family fun at the Art Garage‘s Birthday Celebration from 2-4 p.m. There will be free Popsicles from Chloe’s Soft Serve Fruit Co., free hair paint, tattoos and crafts and lots of in-studio specials too.
— The Austin Symphony Orchestra is kicking off their free summer concert series in front of the Long Center City Terrace today. You and the family can attend the Hartman Foundation Concert in the Park at 7:30 p.m. Free! Bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy an evening of music. Free Parking is available at One Texas Center.
— Have fun at a children’s improv show. Flying Theatre Machine presents “Three Wishes” at 2 p.m. at The Hideout Theatre. Suggestions from audience members will inspire the story of a group of kids who happen upon a playfully mischievous genie. Tickets are $5 for ages 3 and up. You can buy tickets online here.
