— Take part in the Wild Basin Earth Day Celebration at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. All day long on Earth Day, you can stop by the the visitor center before hiking the trails for a photo booth, giveaways, and a kid-friendly scavenger hunt.
— The Red Poppy Festival is an annual tradition just north of Austin in historic Georgetown Square featuring music, food, and fun. Arrive early and stay late for family-friendly entertainment, including a Kick-off Concert featuring Dysfunkshun Junkshun. Tonight’s events run from 6-9 p.m., but the Festival goes through the weekend. View the full event schedule here. Free admission.
— Take a short drive south of Austin for the Buda Country Fair and Wiener Dog Races at Buda City Park. This annual event takes place today and tomorrow from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The country fair begins with pet parade at 9 a.m., followed by the nationally known Wiener Dog Races at 10 a.m. where the speediest dachshunds take to the track. This fundraiser for the Buda Lion’s Club includes a BBQ cook-off, a bake-off, arts & crafts, games for the kids, a washer tournament and lots of entertainment.
— Celebrate Mother Earth at the 2016 Austin Earth Day Festival. This free, family friendly event takes place at the Mueller Browning Hangar from noon – 7 p.m. You’ll find 150+ exhibitors, hands-on activities for kids, inspiring speakers, and delicious food vendors, and live music from Asleep at the Wheel, Ruby Jane, Sweet Spirit and more. Free admission!
— Saturday is a Austin Nature Day — a free family event at the Austin Nature & Science Center. Buzz with the bees, investigate eggs, make toys for the animal residents and more from 9 a.m. – noon!
— Add some music to your morning at a free Big Don Kids Show at Strange Brew at 10 a.m. Don Robinson is an award-winning, local Hip Hop musician who focuses on the positive and inspiring messages for kids.
— Visit the Asian American Cultural Center from 1-4 p.m. for the Dance-A-Thon & Community Fair. Watch Austin Dance India students show their dance skills. Also enjoy food, interactive crafts, Indian food stalls, and more! Free.
— Your kids can dance and sing along with Kidz Bop when their national tour makes a stop at the ACL Live Moody Theatre at 6 p.m. today. KIDZ BOP “Life Of The Party” show features the biggest pop songs of the year, new dance moves, and plenty of fun surprises for the kids. family! Tickets are $25 and up, which you can purchase online here.
— It’s Kids Club Music Hour at the Austin Scottish Rite Theatre today at 1o a.m. Sing, dance, jump, and shout with shakers, streamers, scarves, rhythm sticks, bubbles, stuffed animals, and balloons. Weekly themes and a “come to life” storytime on the stage. Get there early for juice, coffee and snacks. Admission is only $1 per person.
— See Alice in Wonderland at ZACH Theatre today at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. In this unique adaption, the audience starts in the theatre and then follows Alice around ZACH’s campus on an adventure, meeting familiar characters, and helping to defeat the Red Queen. Tickets are $18 for youth and $23 for adults, which you can purchase online here or by calling ZACH’s box office at 512-476-0541 x1.
