— Follow the yellow brick to the Long Center to see The Wizard of Oz! Join Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man, Lion & Scarecrow for this all-time favorite musical. This is a new production that contains all the much-loved songs from the classic Oscar winning movie, plus a few new songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Tickets are $29 & up, available online here. Tonight’s show is at 7:30 p.m., but it also runs through Sunday with various showtimes. More info here.
— See Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass on the largest screen in Texas. This new film (rated PG) is playing at the Bullock Museum’s IMAX Theater. In this film, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Wonderland and travels back in time to try to save the Mad Hatter. Tickets are $10-$13, and you can purchase them online here as well as check the various showtimes.
— Take a little day trip to the annual Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival at the Marktplatz. Besides some great Cajun food, you’ll find many activities for the entire family including live music, and a children’s carnival. The festival will be open today from 6 p.m. – midnight, tomorrow from 11 a.m.-midnight, and Sunday from 12-6 p.m. Click here for ticket info.
— The Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry invites families to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day at a special event today & tomorrow. Close Assault is an event focused on the 36th Infantry Division in WWII with an honor to all of America’s veterans. With presentations at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., you’ll get to see a Sherman tank and jeeps rumble by as you watch a recreated combined arms assault on a German strongpoint. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Free.
— Take the kids to dance along to the positive music of Big Don at 10 a.m. at StrangeBrew. Don Robinson is an award winning Hip Hop musician based in Austin who focuses on the inspiring aspect of what kids embrace about life. The show is fun for all ages and free!
— Monkeys are great! They eat loads of bananas and bugs, can swing from trees by their tails and make for interesting, curious sidekicks in movies. Celebrate your inner monkey at Monkeys & Gorillas Storytime at BookPeople at 11:30 a.m. They’ll read Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb along with other super duper stories that will leave you wanting to swing from trees and eat bananas too! Free.
— Lounge by the pool at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for a fun Memorial Day Celebration. They’re offering a special menu featuring smoked meats, burgers, salads and sweets on Saturday and fajitas and Tex-Mex favorites on Sunday. — The Art Garage is hosting their 5th Birthday Party from 2 – 5 p.m. and everyone’s invited! Join the free fun that includes a petting zoo, face painting, arts & crafts, cake, prizes and more. The party is free to attend, but please RSVP here.
— Whole Foods Market at The Domain is hosting a free, kid-friendly concert from 2-4 p.m. featuring music from Staci Gray. This will take place on the outdoor stage right behind the mini play area. Grab your kids and grab a beer for a chill afternoon.
— It’s HEB Kids Day at the Dell Diamond. Take the kids to see the Round Rock Express take on the Reno Aces at 1:05 p.m. for some good old-fashioned American fun this Memorial Day weekend.
