School’s out for summer! Rain or shine, we’re going to kick off the summer break with an awesome weekend. You can have some extreme fun at X Games, eat free donuts, check out an art workshop at the Umlauf, head to a Ninja Turtle pizza party, go to a bug eating festival, attend the Bullock’s 15th Anniversary party, take the kids to the Superhero Night at the ballpark — and much more!

Here are our Top Austin Family Events…
— Check out some X Games fun this weekend. Take the fam to see some of the best actions sports athletes at Circuit of the Americas (today through Sunday). Kids will love seeing the best skateboarders and BMXers do their thing in Freestyle, Big Air, Best Whip, Vert and Moto X competitions. — Enjoy a night of Ballet Under the Stars at Zilker Hillside Theater. Tonight (and tomorrow) at 8 p.m. you can spread out a blanket and picnic as you watch a FREE ballet performance featuring a variety of choreographers.
— Celebrate the end of a successful school year with free admission to the Texas Memorial Museum for everyone! Exhibits are open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Chat with a paleontologist and have your fossil finds identified, 9 a.m. – noon and 1-4 p.m. Young paleontologists can make their own discoveries in the fossil dig pit 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
— Start the day on the rooftop of the Whole Foods Market Downtown at the Austin Summer Fun Checklist Launch Party from 9 a.m. – noon. Enjoy free breakfast tacos from Hat Creek Burger Co., a dance party with Koo Koo Kanga Roo at 10 a.m. and more fun and games. Admission is $5 for adults, free for kids.
— For something totally different, check out the 9th Annual Austin Bug Eating Festival at in.gredients from 4-8 p.m. Learn about insects as a food for people & pets. Try products made with insects, catch a cooking demonstration from a local chef, and watch the Austin premier of an entomophagy documentary! Suggestion donation of $10 for adults, free for kids.
— The Paramount Theater is kicking off their summer Family Film Festival today with a fun double-feature event that starts Space Jam at 2 p.m. followed by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze at 3:45 p.m. And thanks to Home Slice Pizza, you can opt for a “Turtle Power Pack” that includes pizza, a mini Rice Krispy treat and a drink. AND…the turtles will be in the house for high fives and pics with fans! Movie tickets are $6 for kids & $10 for adults or you can opt for the pizza pack for an additional cost. — Sign the kids up for Kids Kraft, an art workshop for grades K-2 at the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden and Museum. This new series of Saturday art workshops features art-making with natural and recycled materials. Workshops are held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. The session is $10 for members and $15 non-members, and all art supplies are included. To register to participate, please click here.
— The Bullock Museum is celebrating their 15th anniversary today with free admission all day and a special family friendly celebration from 12 – 3 p.m. Head on over for live music, games, an obstacle course, arts & crafts, storytime, a scavenger hunt and treats.
— For expectant parents and parents with wee ones up to age 4, you’ll want to check out The Big Baby Bash & Family Jam. This event at Northwest Recreation Center takes place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and offers seminars and workshops, lots of vendors and hands-on demos. Admission is $5 per adult. — It’s HEB Kids Day at the Dell Diamond and also Superhero Night! Take the kids in their superhero costumes to see the Round Rock Express take on the Oklahoma City Dodgers at 7:05 p.m. Families can enjoy pregame events outside the stadium, a superhero parade on the field and postgame fireworks.
