This weekend you can join us on Saturday at our Back to School Bash at Mt. Playmore! You can also take the kids to the Bat Fest, watch dogs perform tricks, dive into a Splash Bash, see a free movie, go to a baseball game, see Mary Poppins and much more!
— Check out The Wizard of Dogz, an entertaining show from Circus Chickendog based loosely on of The Wizard of Oz, at 1 p.m. at the Dougherty Arts Center. (Shows through Sunday.) Some characters will be played by rescue animals, others by puppets, some by humans. The show also features juggling, clowning and live music. This 60-minute show is suitable for kids of all ages. Tickets are $15 which can be purchased online here. Children under age 3 are free.
— Austin Film Festival presents a free screening of The Goonies on the lawn at the Lone Star Court in The Domain. The film starts at 8 p.m., but you can arrive as early as 6 p.m. to purchase food and drinks and settle into a great spot.
— Join us for the final installment of our Summer Forever Series at the Do512 Family Back to School Bash at Mt. — Make splash before heading back to school! TownLake YMCA is hosting a Back to School Splash Bash from 1-3 p.m. with a bounce house, snacks, drinks, games, and more free fun for the whole family. This event is free and open to the public.
— Visit the Bullock Museum for the last of their Summer Free Family Film Series with a free screening of The Secret of NIMH. Pre-movie activities begin at 1 p.m., and the film starts at 2 p.m. No tickets needed, simply arrive at the Spirit Theater on the 2nd floor of the museum. Bullock members (who show their membership cards) will have priority seating at 1:30 p.m. All other guests will begin seating at 1:40 p.m.
— Austin’s annual Bat Fest takes over the Congress Avenue Bridge today from 4 pm. – midnight. Enjoy 3 stages of live music, more than 75 arts & crafts vendors, food and drink vendors, children’s activities, a bat costume contest and other bat activities. Plus, see 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from under the bridge at dusk. Admission is $25 cash at the gate. Kids 8 & under are free with an adult.
— Say “so long” to summer at the Center for Creative Action‘s Community Art Sunday event from 2-5 p.m. This free celebration includes music from the Sugar Free Allstars, trampolines, face painting, crafts, free snacks and even free beer for moms & dads.
— It’s H-E-B Kids Day at the Dell Diamond. Take the family to a Round Rock Express baseball game at 6:05 p.m. There will be pregame events outside the stadium & postgame run the bases for kids ages 12 & under. Lawn tickets start at $7, which you can purchase online here.
— Mary Poppins is delighting audiences of all ages at ZACH Theatre! See this practically perfect nanny in the big musical production.
