This weekend you can take your little music lovers to ACL Music Festival, the Hush Hush Music Bash or even over to Moojo for a free kids show. Search for bugs by flashlight at the Wildflower Center, take a haunted train ride at the Austin Zoo, watch Mulan in Muller Lake Park, celebrate Star Wars Reads Day, munch on popcorn while you watch Willy Wonka, visit a pumpkin patch & corn maze — and much more!
— It’s Weekend Two of the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Zilker Park. Kids ages 10 and under are FREE to attend with a ticketed adult. Read about what’s new and exciting in the Austin Kiddie Limits section of the park — an area designed specifically for families. With hours from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. each day, kids can enjoy activities like hip-hop workshops, dance parties, ping-pong, punk hairdos, temporary airbrush tattoos, souvenir photos and more.
— Hunt for bugs by flashlight at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center from 6-9 p.m. today during Bug Night Out. There will be mercury light stations to attract some of the coolest critters, and you’re all invited to bring your own flashlights for exploring, too. There is no special registration or extra fees to attend this event. Regular admission will be charged: $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and children 13 and up, $4 for children ages 5-12, and free for children ages 4 and younger as well as members.
— Head over to the Mueller Lake Park Amphitheater for a free screening of Disney’s Mulan at dusk. Arrive early for a performance from The Love of China Dance School at 7 p.m. & complimentary kettle corn. Grab your friends, family & blankets for a fun evening under the stars.
— The annual Boo at the Zoo kicks off tonight at the Austin Zoo. Children can wear their costumes, enjoy peeking at the animals by flashlight, entering the Haunted House and riding the Haunted Train. The Zoo will be illuminated and decorated for Halloween at this fun event happening on Fridays and Saturdays in October from 6:30 – 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person, which you can purchase over the phone at 512-288-1490 or by stopping by the Austin Zoo Gift Shop.
— It’s a great day for a visit to Barton Hill Farms Fall Festival & Corn Maze! Navigate a corn maze, pick out pumpkins, go on a mini-train ride, play games, listen to live music and enjoy plenty of fall fun with the family! Barton Hill Farms will be open today through November 13 on Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (as well as Columbus Day). General admission is $14 and includes all of the activities available. Children ages 2 and under are free. SAVE $1 by ordering tickets in advance here.
— Sign the kids up to participate in a free storytelling workshop at The Contemporary Austin, where they’ll learn to write scintillating stories with the help of Austin Bat Cave, a creative writing organization. Kids will make a book to take home, and participate in a little improv theater, too. This is free, but you must click here to register.
— Celebrate literacy and your love of all things Star Wars at the Windsor Park Library today from 1:30 – 4:30 for the Star Wars Reads Day Celebration. Wear your best Jedi or Sith robes to Padawan storytime then stay for the light saber training, games, costume contest and capture your moment of victory at the Galaxy photobooth. Fans of all ages can celebrate this widely loved Sci-Fi universe together. Free.
— Take your little rockers to a free mini music fest just for families. The 3rd annual Hush Hush Music Bash will take place on the lawn of The Domain II from 3-7 p.m. Hear a great lineup of children’s entertainers and enjoy crafts and hands-on activities for the kids.
— Things are popping at Cornucopia Popcorn’s north location this evening. They are hosting a Grand Opening Party from 5pm to 8pm with a free outdoor showing of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, a bounce house and games for kids, and free popcorn for everyone!
— Hear some tunes while you enjoy some ice cream at Moojo at their free Kids Show. Every Sunday this October, Moojo will have live music, starting at 12 p.m. Listen to music that will make everyone want to dance and wiggle with their favorite ice cream sandwich.
