DIY Home Repairs with Austin’s Free Fix-It Clinics

We’re incredibly impressed by so many friends and neighbors who are diving into new hobbies and learning new practical skills during the pandemic. Now’s a great time to tinker and DIY with home projects, and Austin Resource Recovery has an awesome FREE program that can lead you through a variety of useful topics with their Fix-It At Home online workshop series!

Fix-It At Home! is a series of virtual classes that help Austinites learn how to repair household items and practice other useful skills such as sewing, repairing a bike, or fixing a household appliance. All classes are interactive and taught by a local expert in which you’ll join others classmates from all over the Austin community and be guided through a live virtual session. Each class is free to attend! Most classes are even open to ‘tweens and teens, so you can get your older kids involved in learning practical new skills, too! When you review the sign up details on the Fix-It Austin website, you’ll see the age requirements, a full class description, and a list of materials that you’ll need to have on-hand for your workshop. View the full class list online here.

In addition to simply learning something new and building confidence in your ability to tackle home projects, by participating in a Fix-It Clinic, you’re supporting the value of repair & reuse — keeping items out of landfills and fostering a more circular economy. It’s a total win-win situation!

Do you have a skill you’d love to share in a Fix-It Clinic At Home? If you have repair know-how about a helpful topic, you can sign up to be a volunteer instructor! Click here for more info about getting involved.
