Located by Lady Bird Lake in Butler Park, this beautiful playground known as the Alliance Children’s Garden sits on 2-acres of land with gorgeous skyline views and lots of exciting play structures for all ages. The goal of this years-long development was to create a space for the Austin community that offers a “multigenerational play venue that is comfortable, inviting, imaginative, engaging and visually striking” — and yes, the design team completely achieved this.
The layout of the children’s garden is inspired by four different aspects of Austin’s culture and landscape:
- the hill country garden
- the skyline garden
- the art and culture garden,
- and the rock and slide valley garden
We were so excited to take our own kids and check it out, and we’re happy to share some snapshots of what you can expect:
The Alliance Children’s Garden is located in Butler Park at 1000 Barton Springs Road in downtown Austin. It’s free and open to the public, there are bathrooms on site, lots of shade and seating, and plenty of room to spread out and picnic. It’s also located directly next to a small pond where you can spy turtles, and it’s adjacent to the Liz Carpenter splash pad, which is an awesome added bonus.
