Austin’s parks and green spaces are currently having a big moment! We are thrilled to see so many major park improvements, additions of awesome play structures, community meeting places and zen gardens coming to life this year. One notable transformation was the makeover of Waterloo Park, which was in the works for the past 10 years! Some longtime Austinites might remember Waterloo Park as home to a variety of festivals such as Fun Fun Fun Fest, but under the planning of nonprofit organization Waterloo Greenway Conservancy, this current version of Waterloo Park features 11 acres of revitalized space along with the Moody Amphitheater which hosts an amazing lineup of live performances.
Our team had the chance to take an early tour of the park, and it’s a stunner! We are tremendously excited to have this new parkland in the heart of downtown Austin. Read on for plenty of park details.About the Park: Waterloo Park is located between 12th & 15th Streets along Red River, and is a massive 11 acres that includes spaces that reflect the landscapes of Austin and Central Texas, including hill country gardens with oaks and native plantings, wetland spaces that create places for play and relaxation, expansive lawns for gathering and activities, and more than a mile and a half of trails within the park.
About the Amphitheater: Within the park, you’ll find the 5,000-capacity outdoor concert space, the Moody Amphitheater, which offers large scale concerts managed by C3 and Live Nation. The Park also includes a second 200-seat performance space called the Lebermann Plaza designed for smaller shows, storytimes, and community gatherings. The Waterloo Greenway Conservancy plans to have many free performances, along with ticketed concerts. In fact, 100 free tickets to every concert at Moody Amphitheater will be available to the community through an online giveaway system, underscoring Waterloo Greenway’s commitment to making the arts and outdoor space accessible to all.
