Kiddie Acres had been a fun destination for families with young children since 1979. You’ve likely shared some good times with your little ones at this North Austin amusement park that featured classic carnival-style rides, mini train, carousel, and ponies.
Sadly, Kiddie Acres has announced that they are now permanently closed. Owner, Joseph Herring, mentioned the closing on his Facebook page, noting:
“After 38 wonderful years, Marina and I have retired and Kiddie Acres is now closed. We are a thankful for a wonderful career of bringing smiles to the children of Austin. Thank you for all the support and love as we transition into this new stage of our lives.”
If you are interested in acquiring a piece of Kiddie Acres history, their website notes that equipment and merchandise will be sold by Jones Swenson Auction, [email protected], (512) 261-3838.
We’ve personally had so many fun times at Kiddie Acres and extend our wishes for a happy retirement to the Herrings.
It’s too bad they didn’t sell the place. I think a lot of people would be interested in preserving the landmark and carrying on tradition.
Mr. Herring, I have great memories with my kids at your place. You helped me one day when my tire blew out right outside the acres. As a mom of two babies at the time, your help meant so much to me. Thank you for being such a good person
