On Sturday, August 16, from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, celebrate all things bookie at BookPeople’s National Bookstore Day. This celebration is less about all bookstores in the country and totally, just only about Book People.
Circus Chickendog – the family-friendly circus that keeps it weird – will be appearing in The Wizard of Dogz this week and next at the Institution Theater. Enjoy this doggy adaptation of The Wizard of Oz at 3 pm Aug. 11 – 15 and Aug. 18 – 22. The show is suitable for kids of all ages – yes, even toddlers. Tickets are $12 each.
Sound & Cinema continues on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Long Center with a free screening of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (the 1963 version) and a performance from The Golden Dawn Arkestra. The fun starts around 6 pm and will continue until about 10:30 pm.
Turn your home and garden dreams into a reality and attend the 19th Annual Austin Home and Garden Show, taking place at the Austin Convention Center from Friday, Aug. 15 – Sunday, Aug. 17. You’ll find tons of exhibits in everything from decks, pools, spas, plants, landscape displays and materials, kitchenware and much more, and the kids will have plenty to do in the Kid’s Zone (plus, kids are FREE)!
Hear ye! Hear ye! Directly from Austin’s own Renaissance Festival, the Sherwood Forest Faire, comes Robin Hood and his merry band of outlaws! The Legends of Robin Hood will be stirring up mischief at the Scottish Rite Theater from Aug. 16 – 24.

“It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.” Celebrate swing music at the American Swing session of Planet Music on Friday, Aug. 8 from 7 – 9 pm at the Dougherty Arts Center. Learn a dance routine and listen to a great band – all for free!
It’s Family Saturday at Laguna Gloria this weekend, Aug. 9 from 11 am – 3 pm. Swing by for family-friendly performances, and a chance to meet local artists and create art to take home.
