With SXSW coming up so soon, social media is full of announcements of newly added bands to the lineup and parties upon parties requesting your RSVP. But for parents, SXSW does not exactly equal a week of partying. Kids are out of school, and we need to find fun things to do to fill our days. Sure we want to get out and enjoy some live music, but only if parking is easy and it’s totally cool to bring the kids in tow.
Thankfully this year, there are some SXSW events geared JUST FOR KIDS! Kids and parents can rock out in extremely family-focused environments. So save the date for these two events produced by Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child and Orange Wall Collective, featuring children’s musicians:
–> The Second Annual Family Music Meltdown
Wednesday, Mar. 18, 3-7 p.m.
Pan Am Park
Admission and parking are free at this event that features lots of children’s entertainers! Local and national acts will perform, including Big Don, The Jellydots, The Que Pastas, Gina Chavez, Ralph’s World, Koo Koo Kanga Roo and The NotIts. In addition to the music, there will be an instrument petting zoo, Woombike’s Green Machine pedal-powered station and more. Food and drinks by Lambert’s Foodapalooza and Italian Ice by Uncle Louie G. will be available for purchase. Keep up with all of the latest event info on the Family Music Meltdown Facebook page. And get the schedule of events here.

Of course, we invite you to our own SXSW event — the Do512 Family Picnic on Tuesday, Mar. 17. And we also have a round-up of family-friendly events for you to check out (in which the music is not geared for kids, but it’s find to bring the little ones along if you want to).
We hope you have some fun with your little rockers!
